RATINGS: 92pts Wine Spectator; 92pts Vinous

With total production of merely 150,000 bottles, it is no wonder that Champagne Alfred Gratien has more of a cult following than an international brand image. Small by design, owner and Managing Director Alain Seydoux is dedicated to producing wine of the very highest quality: "Champagne has to be king. It has no justification otherwise." Grape selection, vinification techniques, and the care the wines receive have more in common than many of the larger, more famous industrial brand Champagne houses.

The Alfred Gratien style is clearly revealed in this Rose Champagne. A refined blend where the elegance of chardonnay and the fruity notes of Pinot Meunier mingle with delicacy.

TASTING NOTES: Wine Spectator 92 points- Lithe and mouthwatering, this balanced rose offers a subtle, smoky underpinning and flavors of ripe raspberry, blood orange sorbet and toast. Lightly spiced, with a lasting finish. Drink now through 2020. 4,000 cases made. AN.December/2017

Vinous 92 points- (45% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir; 8 g/l dosage; L14198): Light, bright orange. Vibrant, mineral accented aromas of pomegranate, raspberry and tangerine, plus a suave note of smoky lees. Bitter rhubarb and cherry skin flavors give way to softer, sweeter raspberry in the mid palate, with gentle minerality adding spine and lift. Packs a solid punch but comes off surprisingly lithe for its power. Finishes with excellent clarity, a subtle vanilla quality and strong mineral driven persistence. In the context of top drawer pink Champagne this bottling always delivers outstanding value. Josh Raynolds.January/2015
