RATINGS: 93pts Wine Advocate; 93pts Wine Spectator
Located in the prestigious wine production area of Montalcino in Tuscany, Val di Suga has the unique advantage of being the only producer with vineyards in all three of Montalcinos viticultural regions each with its own individual terroir. Val di Suga employs the Burgundy method, crafting wines that follow appellation regulations but with an additional focus on individual territories; the result is high quality Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino renowned for its aging potential but also approachable when young.
TASTING NOTES: Wine Spectator 93 points This is austere, with a dense matrix of tannins supporting cherry, tobacco, stone and leather flavors. Stays fresh, featuring a coating of dusty tannins on the finish. Best from 2018 through 2032. B.S..April/2016
Wine Advocate 93 points The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Granchio is a shapely and powerful wine with a tight approach and a smooth succession of wild berry, spice and cola like aroma. The wine shows a lot of the balsam herb aromas that are so unique to Sangiovese in the Montalcino appellation. In the mouth, this wine presents tightly knit tannins that should relax and flesh out with more aging time in the bottle. I would suggest waiting at least three years before popping the cork. The wine is too young to drink now..Monica Larner, March/2016
