Description Build A Case!
Poderi Aldo Conterno belongs to an elite group of historical Barolo producers who have truly shaped the history of winemaking in the Langhe. The essential resource the Wine Atlas of the Langhe writes: “Gran Bussia is universally acknowledged as one of the finest interpretations of Barolo. Created in 1970 from a selection of the estate’s best grapes, Gran Bussia – released only in the best vintages – has shown how it is possible to achieve a perfect marriage of aromas and flavor with unhurried cellaring. Recent tastings of all the vintages have confirmed the staying power of the wine, which exalts the majestic nose of Nebbiolo while offering a palate that becomes increasingly velvety with the passing years.”

TASTING NOTES: Aldo Conterno’s Barolo Bussia is produced from five hectares of prime vineyards in Bussia Soprano, the original section of what has become a rather large vineyard in recent years. These five hectares are spread across three separate parcels with vines averaging 35-40 years old, with no vines younger than 20 years old. Fruit from vines younger than 20 years old will never be used in Barolo, but will go into the Nebbiolo Favots. The grapes were left in contact with their skins for a full 30 days, after which the wine was aged 27 months in 25 HL casks. True to the Conterno commitment to extreme quality, which is achieved through aggressive green harvesting to ensure that only the best bunches achieve optimal ripeness, they produced just 19,000 bottles of Barolo Bussia 2013 rather than the 39,000 bottles they could legally produce based on legal limits.
