From The Most Exciting Vintage Since 1947

From one of the great discoverers of French wine Kermit Lynch comes one of the greatest values in French Wine. The wine comes from the historically brilliant 2015 vintage. The Cru Beaujolais are spectacular in this vintage many critics commenting that it is even better than the great 2005. This wine the superb Cru Beaujolais 2015 Domaine Diochon Moulin a Vent Vieilles Vignes has received a huge 95pts by Suckling and 93pts by Vinous is a rare opportunity to experience a wine from 125 year old vines under $25 per bottle. The is gloriously rich, Parker commenting that the wine has “more similarity to a red Burgundy or Northern Rhone.” Suckling hails the wine as “the Charmes Chambertin of Beaujolais”. Only a few hundred cases make it to the US and they all been spoken for. You will have a hard time finding this wine.

95pts Suckling; 93pts Vinous

Fabulous aromas of crushed raspberries, blueberries and flowers. Some tar, too. Full and tannic yet so supple and gorgeous. Just a baby. Made with vines of which some are over 125 years old. Superb wine. The Charmes-Chambertin of Beaujolais. Drink now or hold for many years. Suckling

Vivid ruby. Powerful, intensely perfumed dark berry, cherry liqueur and licorice aromas, along with hints of star anise and musky earth. Sweet, penetrating and focused on the palate, offering sappy blackberry, floral pastille and succulent herb flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Plays richness and power off vivacity with a deft hand and finishes very long and sweet, with dusty tannins coming on late. Vinous

More On The Wine and The Winery

Domaine Diochon has been making Beaujolais guided by the same traditions since its inception in 1935. Run by 2 generations of the Diochon family until 2007, when Bernard Diochon retired with no heirs. He appointed Thomas PatenĂ´tre as his heir apparent, which turned out to be an easy transition. Situated just across the road from Moulin-Ă -Vent's namesake windmill, the domaine continues to make Beaujolais the old-fashioned way; picking when grapes are perfectly mature, traditional whole-cluster fermentations, aging in large old oak foudres, and bottling unfiltered in the springtime. Diochon has long been considered as a torchbearer to the ancestral methods, and PatenĂ´tre has succeeded in safeguarding these traditions and carrying on the distinct and much-celebrated house style.

According to Bernard, one of the most unique qualities of the domaine is the quality of the soil that they farm. Crumbly granite allows the vines to plunge easily towards “gore” subsoil, which feeds the vines, while adding a pronounced mineral component to the wine. Given the old age of his vines, anywhere between fifty and one hundred and fifty years old, yields are naturally small. These are wines that are easy to enjoy in their youth but can handle years of cellar aging with great ease.
