Argentina’s Signature red Grape is Malbec. The Malbec grape once popular in Bordeaux has developed its own style and personality is Argentina’s Mendoza Valley. Lovers of great value full bodied big reds have flocked to Malbec which offers everything you might look for in a quality Napa Cab but at a far better price point. Todays 2017 Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva can be had at a spectacular price of $14.99 and you will not find a better big red at the price. The wine drinks like a $40 Napa Cab.

Winery: Full-bodied with a great structure, this wine stands out for its volume and silky mouth-feel. It is complex, boasting smooth, well-rounded tannins that give way to a staggeringly long and lingering finish.

92 Point James Suckling - "A young Malbec that shows blackberry, flowers and minerals. Full body, fresh acidity and a bright, focused finish that's subtle and savory. Drink or hold. Deep ruby color. Brimming with red fruit, dry plums, raisins and permeated by delicate floral scents of violets and touches of toasted vanilla and sweet spice. It is very round and well-structured; fleshy with firm tannins.

The vineyards are in the foothills of the Andes, where each varietal is grown at the ideal altitude for optimal development. The pre-phylloxera vines (very old) are irrigated with snowmelt from the Andes. Terrazas de los Andes was named by Wine Spectator as ”One of the 20 worldwide wineries which year after year delivers consistent high quality wines.” Located in Vistalba one of the sweet spots for Malbec in Mendoza. Terrazas de los Andes was founded by French Champagne House Moet & Chandon. Chandon spent many years researching lands around the world and chose the terroir of these high altitude vineyards that could make truly great red wine. They restored an old Spanish style winery that had belonged from 1898 to Sotero Arizu, one of the forefathers of winemaking in Argentina. Combining French winemaking techniques and know-how with the great potential Mendoza has for great wine has resulted in a winning combination, with Terrazas de los Andes not only making great values but also some the greatest wine Argentina makes.
