RATINGS: 93pts Wine Advocate; 92pts Wine Enthusiast; 92pts James Suckling; 93pts Vinous

Marchetti Sergio owner of the estate of Fossacolle, belongs to an old patriarchal family of the 18th century. This family's descendants have ever been living and farming on the land of a large and noble lineage.

At the beginning of the eighties, the owner of this land, sold the territories where the Marchettis worked and decided to donate them the "Podere Fossacolle". In 1984, the first Sangiovese vineyards were planted, marking the start of the viniculture activity.

Some years later, the vineyards were registered as Brunello di Montalcino, allowing the winery to develop the enological aspects with investiments related to the realization of the cellar for the vinification and aging in wood barrels. On January 1st, 2002, the winery issued their first Brunello di Montalcino, vintage 1997.

Tasting Notes: Wine Enthusiast 92 points- This opens with underbrush, sun baked earth, spiced plum and espresso aromas. On the taut, full bodied palate, licorice, clove and grilled herb notes accent a core of black cherry and crushed raspberry fruit. Tightly knit, fine grained tannins suggest ageing potential. Drink 2020 2028..Kerin O'Keefe, April/2017

Vinous 92 points- Good full red Complex aromas of red cherry, raspberry, minerals and medicinal herbs Bright, dense and juicy, with a multilayered quality to the delicately spicy red fruit flavors Finishes long and tactile with youthfully chewy tannins and repeating hints of herbs Serious Brunello that will repay laying down..Ian D'Agata, March/2017

Wine Advocate 93 points- Boasting a dark and rich color, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a youthful and bright expression that still has a ways to go in terms of its evolution. The wine shows loads of primary fruit at the moment with dark fruit, cherry and black currant at the front line. The Brunello offers smoothness and softness on the palate but you also get a bright and tangy touch of that Sangiovese acidity that reminds you of the appellation's most valuable assets..March/2017

James Suckling 92 points- Aromas of mushrooms, rose petals and strawberries follow through to a full body and soft and juicy tannins that have an big presence. Needs time in the bottle to come together. Try in 2020..February/2017
