Vinha Maria Teresa is a small plot of Quinta do Crasto which is planted with one hundred year old vines. This is the oldest plot of vines at Quinta do Crasto and its name is a tribute to the first grandchild of Constantino de Almeida, founder of the Quinta. Despite their low productivity, old vines give highly concentrated fruit allowing us to obtain a wine of great complexity. Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa wine is only made in the finest vintages in very limited quantities. A project called "PatGen Vineyards" was recently developed in order to identify all the varieties that make up Maria Teresa's vineyard with the goal of allowing the replacement of dead vines with genetically identical varieties. This therefore will preserve the "terroir" and the "field blend" of this exceptional vineyard. To date 45 different grape varieties have been identified in this ancient vineyard with 4,7 hectares of vines. For many wine enthusiasts, enjoying a Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa is a true privilege. Since its first release in 1998, Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa has been regarded as one of the greatest Portuguese wines and acclaimed by national and international specialized press.

TASTING NOTES: Wine Advocate 95 points The 2013 Vinha Maria Teresa is Crasto's lone single vineyard wine this year there will be no Ponte and it is a beauty. Showing the big flavor that this bottling always produces, it is nonetheless a remarkably graceful wine, impeccably balanced, pointed and focused. Over the years, this bottling has become ever more graceful while always retaining its identity. Never bombastic these days, this bottling can be a good food wine, as well as a tasty treat. The bright fruit, laced with a bit of blueberry and vanilla in its youth, becomes more nuanced over time and continues to evolve in the glass. Some air and time does this a lot of good. Its tannins are well integrated, but they do make an appearance. Overall, this is very approachable, but it would be a waste to dive in now. It should hold together very well in cellar over the next couple of decades; let's start conservatively in that regard. It is a beauty overall..April/2016

Wine Spectator 94 points A lithe and elegant red, with hints of anise to the boysenberry and cherry flavors. Juicy midpalate, featuring loads of fresh acidity. Dark chocolate and peppery notes linger on the refined finish. Drink now through 2024. K.M..March/2016
