Sonoma Cutrer has been producing the finest quality wines since it opened as a vineyard company in 1973. Its foundation is built in the hillsides and rocky foothills in the region recognized as the Sonoma Coast Appellation this region experiences long, even growing seasons thanks to the cool, foggy coastal climate. In the 70's, the company planted several different grape varieties and virtually overnight Sonoma Cutrer's Chardonnay grapes had gained a reputation for exceptional quality and were in high demand by many premium wineries. Discussions about creating a cutting edge winery began, and Sonoma Cutrer gathered a crew of wine experts including Terrence Clancy, Brad Web, Bill Bonetti, Robert Haas, David Reid and Chuck Bennett. Under the guidance of these experts, Sonoma Cutrer made Chardonnay its main focus, and it was to be made exclusively from Sonoma Cutrer's own vineyards. In 1981, ground was broken for the new winery. Today, Sonoma Cutrer's flagship wine, Russian River Ranches, is the most requested Chardonnay in America's finest restaurants according to the annual Wine & Spirits Restaurant Poll, April 2013 (22 of the last 24 years). For wine consumers, the name Sonoma Cutrer is synonymous with superb Chardonnay.

Les Pierres Vineyard consistently produces wines that rank among the world's finest what some would call noble wines. Such world class stars just don't happen, of course; site, viticulture, winemaking and even Mother Nature all play a role in ensuring that a wine is of exceptional quality.

The most significant factor in a noble wine, however, is the vineyard's terroir. Located on the eastern slope of Sonoma Mountain, Les Pierres' terroir is predominantly defined by its soils, which are replete with rock and cobblestones. The stones are volcanic, eroded over the years from the Sonoma Mountain volcano, and deposited over the past two million years at Les Pierres. Consequently, wines made from Les Pierres grapes possess flinty, mineral aromas and distinctive flavors that are present vintage after vintage.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES: This vintage is loaded with aromas of lemon and lime, and accented with hints of Bosc pear, caramel, oak spice and the familiar, flinty, mineral notes that are a defining characteristic of the Les Pierres Vineyard. The citrus flavors of grapefruit and lime are complemented and balanced with toasty, caramelized oak, and spice. The careful approach to oak aging and fermentation creates a round, full mouthfeel with Sonoma Cutrer's signature bright and lively citrus laced acidity and a long, lingering finish of nice barrel spice.
