The Priorat is where great wines like Clos Erasmus and Clos Mogador come from and the third of the triumvirate which I have for you today Clos Martinet . There incredible tiny old vine vineyards that straddle the mountainsides of the Priorat, planted in the famous llicorella/schist soils make some of the finest wines I have ever tasted and some of the finest wines ever made. The last time the Wine Advocate visited and tasted Spain, the standout wines from their trip, the wines that separated themselves from all others were the wines of Clos Martinet, “My senses were almost overwhelmed by the thrilling wines …...” These wines are what legends are made of, they hurt you they are so good, tremendous depth and concentration and length with some of the finest pure black fruit wine can possess. I absolutely adore these wines and while they rival the finest in the world, they offer spectacular value. . The 2009 vintage for Spain is one of the greats. Parker himself stated that top Wineries will make their greatest wines ever in the 2009 vintage. This wine is sublime getting 96pts by Parker’s WA and is considered one of the great wines of the vintage. The wine is named after the three tiny vineyards that line the route taken by travelers from one town to the next . Great old vine vineyards planted in 1920. If you like the absolute finest of all big reds, Napa, Brunello or Bordeaux these wines will blow you away. They can be had at a fraction of the price of others and equal their quality in every way.

Tasting Notes: It has an outstanding bouquet of lifted, fresh ripe blackberry, liquorice, allspice and thyme with wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, controlling the heat of the growing season with aplomb, while retaining outstanding balance. The tension here is exceptional thanks to the pH of 3.2 (a figure much lower than ten years ago when they were not working under organic viticulture). There is a gentle build towards the liquorice-tinged, succulent finish that finally delivers white pepper on the long aftertaste. Drink 2015-2028+. 96pts Parker’s WA
