My Personal Recommendation For You
Frattina
Pinot Grigio 2012 Friuli;
Italy (Regular $24.99) Bttl
$18.99 Case Bttl $16.99
Pinot
Grigio is more than just the Italian grape variety; it embodies the style of a
wine, the people, and the foods of Italy. And when craving a crisp, refreshing,
complex and distinctive Pinot Grigio (with the ability to improve with age),
Frattina Pinot Grigio offers all of that and more. It’s a solid Italian
Pinot Grigio, one with an aromatic richness on the nose and a bright fruit and
acidity on the palate, able to rival very well with a top Chablis or
trocken (dry) German Riesling!
The noble
Frattina family first appeared in this region of the Lisbon-Pramaggiore (Coat
of Arms is pictured) before the year 1000. Since that time the lords of
Frattina bound their destinies to these lands for almost a millennium. In the
1600's the Counts of Frattina founded a winemaking cellar which remained under
their control for almost four hundred years. It's no coincidence that both the
property rights to the cellar and the control of its operation were assumed by
two families that are an integral part of the industrial history of Italy: the
Zanussis, and now, the Averna Family. The
Lison-Pramaggiore DOC was established in 1971 of the Veneto wine region in north-eastern
Italy. Its vineyards have excellent southern sun exposures. The soils are
primarily clay, yet they hide and conserve a precious feature below – a mantle
of calcium, rich in trace elements able to hold moisture for a long time and
release it during periods of limited rainfall – an essential in creating a
wine with a truly refined character! [100%
Lison-Pramaggiore DOC (Friuli) Pinot Grigio fruit from the Quartarezza Vineyard
(21 hectares)] Winery’s
production and tasting notes: Harvest was
carefully performed by hand in September so that the whole grapes reached the
press. The wine was then refined in stainless steel for four months with an
additional two months in the bottle.
“This
pale straw-colored wine has a full, prominent fragrance aromas of fresh hay and
wild honey. The taste is dry, flavorful and full with a fruity aroma and an
elegant lingering finish of toasted hazelnuts, lemon, green apple and
blossoms.” - 91pts W&S
