Price On A Stunner From This Great Region
  The
Priorat in Spain makes some of my all-time favorite wines. This is the land of
the 100pt Parker Wine, some of the greatest wines on the planet like Clos
Mogador and Clos Erasmus come from Priorat, iconic wines as good as the likes
of Sassicaia and Chateau Lafite or Screaming Eagle. The region is famous for
its steep mountain side terraced vineyard of hundred year old vines that need
to be picked by hand where no machinery will ever go for fear of falling
hundreds of feet to the bottom. I absolutely love great Priorat, big, rich
wines with superb concentration and todays wine is a stunner, drinking
superbly, got the ratings and at an absolute, steal, no-brainer price. The
2007 Genium Celler Ecologic is drinking to
perfection, as good as any other big red at the price, is a fifty dollar bottle
that we can offer under thirty and will blow you away with its richness,
opulence and concentration. Genium is made up of six different families in the
Priorat who decided to pool forces to make the best wines. The winery is set up
in a house that dates back to 1265 and was the first settlement of the
Carthusian Monks of Scala Dei. The
 Ecologic is produced exclusively from a
seven acre old vine, organic vineyard certified by the Catalan Council of
Agriculture. The wine goes through a 25 day maceration period and is age in
small French oak , 50% new. The results are spectacular, full bodied big red
that has awesome concentration, seemless on the backend and has come together
superbly.
Coffee and chocolate notes frame black cherry, wild herb
and mineral flavors in this plump red. Still fresh, this has light, firm
tannins that keep it balanced through the dried fruit and floral finish.
Excellent depth, richly concentrated. Drinking superbly now and over the next
two years. The wine is 50% Garnacha with Merlot, Syrah and Carinena.
