This is a classic Bordeaux-inspired blend of Cabernet and a smaller percentage of Merlot, a partnership that has proved itself in almost every major wine-growing country on Earth, including Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon typically provides the blend's weight and tannin structure, while Merlot offers generous red and black fruit flavors.

The Merlot grapes used for this production were from the warmer Napa climate of Calistoga; the Cabernet came from the cooler Oak Knoll Napa district, with each complementing one another extremely well. Cabernet-Merlot blends also have an excellent affinity for oak, and so the Cabernet was aged in 75% New French Oak among a variety of coopers (casks) while the Merlot was unequally aged in 20% New French Oak

Winery’s notes: “The 2012 Fly By Proprietary Red Blend (Napa Valley) shows layers of structure, yet is extremely approachable at a young age. Ripe and flavorful, this wine will definitely develop for 5-7 years and, of course, become even more enjoyable with time. Currants, blackberries and licorice come through on both the nose and the palate. With a classically long finish and weighty mid palate, this wine is a great example of the quality wines produced in the Napa Valley.”
