My Personal Recommendation For You
Domaine
Odoul-Coquard Morey-St-Denis "Les Crais Gillon"
2011 Burgundy; France Reg $59.99 Bttl
$54.99 By the case bttl. $49.99
The
most expensive red wines in the world are Red Burgundy. The prices wine lovers
are willing to pay for quality seems to have no top. Prices just keep getting
higher. The wines of Domaine Odoul Coquard rival the best but at a fraction of
the price. Burgundy specialist Bill Nanson just came out with his 10 Best
Unsung Burgundy Producers and his number three pick is Coquard. These are the
houses on the up and prices are about to explode. I have been able to secure
just fifteen cases of the 2011 Domaine Odoul Coquard Morey St Denis “Les
Crais Gillon” and that is the whole allocation for the US. These wines are made
in tiny amounts and at $49.99 a bottle by the case, the wine is a steal.
Burgundy has had three short vintages in a row and prices are only going up.

“Sébastian Odoul is the
latest generation of the family to join the team and he's made a tremendous
series of wines. Keep your eyes out for them.”
– Bill Nanson (01/07/2014).
I have been
espousing the greatness of the spectacular red Burgundy from Domaine
Odoul-Coquard. The wines of Domaine Odoul-Coquard are on fire! This tiny estate
focuses on some the finest and best-value red wine coming out of the
CĂ´te de Nuits and this has all been word of mouth. This house
was my biggest discovery on my trip to Burgundy in 2012. The wines are made by
Sébastian Odoul, the third
generation to make wines at this tiny family Domaine. These were part of the
great portfolio of Chateau and Estates, the finest portfolio ever assembled. So
if you love red Burgundy, these wines will floor you – I am talking liquid
gold. Every time a wine lover tastes these wines they want more. The word is
now spreading, just this week on
Wine-searcher's News and Features Section,
the highly respected Burgundy specialist, Bill Nanson, wrote a blog article on
the
10 Best Unsung Burgundy Producers and his number three pick is
Domaine Odoul-Coquard. These are Domaines that he recommends you buy. These are
the houses on the upand up, ahead of the curve that won't be
"undiscovered" for much longer. Imagine buying wines like Henri Jayer
or Coche-Dury before fame and fortune and the huge investments they became. I
quote Nanson
, " The following are my "Top 10 Alternative Domaines:
places that are making excellent bottles, and where you can still buy
wine."
I can
personally tell you that Coquard is oversold and very hard to get.
With three short vintages in a row,
availability is tight and they’ve lost what amounts to a whole vintage in three
years.
The
family-owned winery (pictured) is located in Morey-St-Denis village, 15 km (9
miles) south of Dijon, in the prestigious CĂ´te de Nuits of Burgundy.
Reviews:
“The mix
of strawberry and mulberry gives richness on the nose and fleshiness to the
palate. Under the ripe fruit there is a mix of raspberry and loganberry that
refreshes both mid and back palate.”
– Derek Smedley, Master of Wine (Oct. 2013).
“Violet
on the nose. Lovely rich typical Morey style. For those not too familiar with
this key Village perhaps a blend of their neighbors Chambolle-Musigny &
Gevrey-Chambertin with a touch more richness and spice. A steal.”
– The Burgundy Portfolio
