Bordeaux’s Best Vintage Ever
The 2009 vintage for Bordeaux is
being heralded by the King of Bordeaux Robert Parker as the best ever. Parker
on 2009 Bordeaux, "After spending nearly two weeks in Bordeaux at the end
of January, this is unquestionably the greatest Bordeaux vintage I have ever
tasted." He further commented, "In short, 2009 is the greatest
vintage I have tasted in Bordeaux since 1982, of which it is a modern day
version, but greatly improved." This vintage now goes down with the
greats, 1982, 1961 and 1945. I found today's offer quite by chance while going
through the inventory of one of Bordeaux's biggest negociants. The wine has
been aging perfectly in their cellars in Bordeaux and I managed to negotiate a
great price. The wine is the 2009 Chateau du Seuil from
the Graves, the home of First Growth Haut Brion and one of the key left bank,
Cabernet based appellations in Bordeaux. I have been quietly seeking out 2009's
from the Graves having recently tasted wines like Malartic-Lagravier and De
Fieuzal and found them to be showing absolutely superbly. Chateau du Seuil is
as good and we can offer at half to a third of the price. This is real
Bordeaux, not over extracted bubble gum wines that many of the more reasonably
prices Bordeaux have become. This is a great wine at a great price, the wine
was selected from an eight hectare parcel, soil comprising of river gravel and
sand deposits with limestone, clay and iron pan, the perfect composition for
great red wine from this region. The blend again is typical 50% Cabernet, 40%
Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine spent 18 months in new and 1st
fill small French oak and spent 6 months on its lees. The result is a glorious
mouthful of red wine! Chateau de Seuil is family owned and all fruit is
from the estate. Average age of vineyards is 40 years of age and 2009 was an
exceptional vintage for the wine and is definitely the most complete wine I
have tasted at the price. The wine got a stunning 90 pts by Wine Spectator, is
selling for thirty five to forty dollars a bottle and we can offer for twenty
five. Buy this wine by the case, historic vintage, insane price to quality.

was an exceptional vintage at du Seuil. Good acidity, concentrated, forward
tannins and a complex, pleasant fruitiness. Multiple levels of flavor structure
and integrated oak characters. Tender and expressive, this red offers aromatic
berry and cherry notes, with coffee and tobacco undertones. Offers a broad
texture, with well-integrated tannins and enough acidity to keep it lively.
