“This refreshing white offers a clear, focused mix of passion fruit, lime, mango and green apple flavors on a light, smooth body. Finishes with a succulent juiciness, showing echoes of lemon verbena.”

Kono Sauvignon Blanc is one small part of the Kono food & beverage company called Wakatu Inc. They focus on foods, beverage & horticulture products produced exclusively in New Zealand. Kono is the name of the traditional food basket woven out of harakeke, a local reed.

Vibrant to be sure, this Sauvignon Blanc is bursting with passionfruit and grapefruit in the nose, and has luscious texture in the mouth: ripe stone & citrus fruit character, zesty acidity …a refreshing combination to carry you through the warm months ahead!

We have been making a highly acclaimed Sauvignon Blanc for three decades, and we make it with the same intention as our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Crafted with great care from fruit grown in exceptional soils, it is a serious wine with structure, sophistication, and the ability to age gracefully.

This classically complex and elegant expression of the varietal comes from a who’s who of the finest vineyards in Napa Valley and on Sonoma Mountain as noted below, as well as grapes from our own Spottswoode Estate Vineyard.

Winemaker Notes: Fresh and juicy, with great complexity. A powerful wine that’s layered and textured with citrus and stone fruits filling the palate. Fresh pear and white peach mingle with passion fruit and lemon meringue. The mouthwatering vivacious acidity and complex subtle vanilla and creaminess gives great length to this impressive wine.

“Les Baronnes” comes from the hills and ridges separating the village of Chavignol from Sancerre. These sites are composed of clay and limestone chalk (65% clay and 35% chalk). In order to preserve and develop the aromatic potential, this wine is fermented then matured on its fine lees for 5 months in stainless steel tanks.
2016 CRAGGY RANGE SAUVIGNON BLANC TE MUNA ROAD VINEYARD 750ML
2016 CRAGGY RANGE SAUVIGNON BLANC TE MUNA ROAD VINEYARD 750ML
Bottle Price $19.99

Craggy Range is a family owned winery established in 1997 named by Wine Enthusiast magazine as New World Winery of the Year for 2014. It is situated in the foothills of the spectacular Te Mata Peak in the premium wine growing area of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. Based on the single vineyard philosophy of winemaking, Craggy Range was the first winery in the Southern Hemisphere to make single vineyard wines from multiple New Zealand regions with grape varieties matched to place.

The Te Muna Road Vineyard is located roughly five miles from the center of the town of Martinborough, and is divided into two terraces. The upper terrace lies entirely on the old, stony, decomposing Martinborough terrace soils that have become famous for Pinot Noir. As might be expected, this terrace is planted primarily to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on proven rootstocks and, where possible, in new clones from Burgundy. The lower terrace is geologically distinct, dominated by greywacke stones interspersed with a little limestone, and is planted almost entirely to Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard architecture is a very intensive, narrow-row structure with between 1,400 and 2,100 vines per acre.

Director of Wine and Viticulture and a founder and shareholder of Craggy Range Winery, Steve Smith is the only Master of Wine in the world who is also a viticultural specialist. Smith graduated Lincoln University in Field Experimentation in 1983 and became a research assistant to Dr. Richard Smart, the Australian viticulturist who pioneered canopy management techniques now used in many winegrowing areas of the world.

92 POINTS - Wine Spectator

The fleshy peach and nectarine flavors are ripe, juicy and appealing, with fresh fennel, grapefruit zest, jasmine and mineral accents. Generous, supple and refreshing, presenting terrific intensity on the finish. — MaryAnn Worobiec
