Tasting Notes: Villa di Vetrice vineyards sit high in the Ruffina zone. Ruffina is the highest point in the entire Chianti appellation. Altitudes there allow winemakers to create wines with remarkable aging potential, wines that will retain their freshness (thanks to cool summer evenings) for decades. The wine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino fermented and aged in large Slovenian oak for 12 months. Deep garnet, a classic interplay of dark fruit and earthiness... Classic bouquet of earth, cedar, tobacco, black cherries, and dried herb aromas, supple and fleshy on the palate with superb amazingly fresh berry fruit and oh so harmonious on the finish. A wine that is drinking well now, and yet will improve further with additional aging. This Riserva represents what is the best in beautifully cellared and aged out Tuscan reds at an affordable price.
