Winner Of Italy’s Highest Wine Award
Surrounded by Italy’s Blue Chip Collectible Elite
Comes A Value Stunner
The highest award a wine can win in Italy is the Tre Bicchieri (three glass) award. Over twenty thousand wines are tasted and less than one half of one percent of the wines wins the award. These wines are the finest quality, the best, the crème de la crème. This is a place that Italy’s greats get recognized. Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Dal Forno and Valdicava. Big wines with big price tags! Once in a very long while a wine that’s at an everyday price tag breaks all the rules, breaks through and gets the award. The wine then becomes impossible to get because it is so damn good. Everybody wants it. Not only was I able to get the wine but I can offer it to you at a 20% savings. The wine is the 2008 Villa Medoro Montepulciano and it is delicious. Big and rich, filled with dark black fruits, cashmere smooth on the palate and superbly supple on the back end. If you like big reds this wine is for you. An absolute no-brainer at the price we can offer. Winemaker Sandro Casimirri with the guidance of the great Riccardo Cotarello, has fashioned a stunning effort in 2008. This is a big, lush, stunning, dark fruit red from the Colline Teramane DOCG where the warm, dry climate, coupled with coastal breezes, allows full ripening of fruit, producing wine that is soft and supple, sweet and lasting in your mouth. This is the prototypical big wine at a small price.
Tasting Notes: A stunning red with intense varietal fruit and an assertive palate skillfully forged by rich, powerful raw material. First thing that hits you is the color - inky, dark purple. On the nose, earth with lead pencil or graphite, maybe some violets and unsweet blackberry. This is a teeth stainer and not one for a date. We had it with Rigatoni filled with ground veal, topped with a meat sauce and it was fantastic. The 2008 is a dense, mouth filling red loaded with dark fruit, underbrush and licorice. The wine is drinking deliciously now and will over the next couple of years.
