Red Wine Hand-Picked 93 Pts Wine Spectator <FONT color=red><STRONG>93 Points Wine Spectator</STRONG></FONT><BR><FONT color=blue><STRONG>#35 On Wine Spectators Top 100 Wines Of The Year </STRONG></FONT><BR>The amazing Tuscany 2006 vintage sometimes seems to be dominating the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines OF 2009 listing like no other. Twenty-five percent of the 2009 Wine Spectator list Top 20 is from Tuscany. 2006 Viticcio Chianti Classico Riserva holds 93 Points from Wine Spectator and stands at #35 in the WS Top 100. This outstanding Sangiovese varietal is from the heart (and the heartbeat) of the Chianti Classico DOCG in the medieval village of Greve. This Chianti Classico Riserva delivers soft fruits, currants, black cherry and spice notes on the nose. The attack on the palate is firm, very full, red fruit and spices with dense and even tannins that allow a smooth and balanced finish. The sum of the parts is a supple, beautiful Riserva that perfectly represents the excellence of a Riserva but promises of further rewards after time inyour cellar. Riservas are usually aged one more year in bottle than normal Chianti Classicos, and they are typically made from the best grapes or best vineyards of a given winery. This wine is not only a best of the best but with a Grapes price of $29.99, it is an unheard of value.<BR>The 2006 vintage in Tuscany was a warm and sunny year but slightly cooler than traditional top years, so the prolonged maturation cycle for the grapes greatly benefited the hilly vineyards of Chianti Classico, especially Sangiovese which makes up the majority of this awesome 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva, along with input from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Greve, home of the Viticcio Estate, is considered The center of Chianti Classico, hosting a Chianti wine Festival every September.The Viticcio Estate stands amidst a rustic complex, charmingly situated on the gentle and sunny ridge of a hillside, overlooking sloping vineyards with superb sun exposure, above the picturesque, ancient town of Greve in Chianti. The history of Viticcio is actually the history of the Landini family which, in the early 1960s became the owner of the winery.
