The Benchmark In Brunello

Brunello are some of the most sought after red wines in the world. If you love the worlds best age-able big reds, Super Tuscans; Bordeaux, Napa Cabs and the finest Brunello. This is a definite buy vintage. The greatness of the 2006 vintage for Brunello has been established ever since the regular wines were released last year, we have patiently been awaiting the arrivals of the iconic Brunello Riservas. These are the crème de la crème of Brunello, from a Wineries finest barrels or single vineyards and they spend a further one year in barrel prior to release (a total of 3 years in the barrel and 2 years in the bottle by law prior to release). What's great about Brunello is that it gets released later than all the other great wines from Tuscany, the great Super Tuscans, the Chianti Classico Zone and Vino Nobile, and we can already see how great any given vintage is based on how these other regions performed. The vintage is a classic! Parker has already rated other noble parts of Tuscany in a major way. 2006 Chianti Classico got 96pts and the Super Tuscans from the Coast, the area known as the Maremma which includes Bolgheri, in 2006 got 97pts. These two scores equal or are the highest Parker has ever given a vintage. Since then Parker has given the 2006 vintage of Brunello 97 pts, the highest rating he has ever given a vintage for Brunello. James Suckling the ex-European editor of the Wine Spectator has declared 2006 Brunello as the modern day equivalent of last century's vintage of the decade 1997. A number of top producers deem their 2006 wines to be the best ever. Leading Oenologist Carlo Ferrini who makes some of the finest Brunello's commented, "This is one of the finest vintages I can remember." Wine Spectator has given the vintage a whopping 96 pts calling the wines "Complex and powerful wines that impress with ripe yet fresh fruit and firm yet silky tannins"2007 Regular Brunello's are also spectacular.The back to back vintages of 2006 and 2007 in Italy are considered the finest back to back vintages ever. The Spectator and Parker rates the 2007 vintage just a hair below 2006 but is definitely better than 2005, 2008, and 2009 . 2007 is a very rich, opulent year where the wines have superb rich fruit concentration, they will drink awesomely young and they will have the ability to age. No cellar will be complete with out some of the finest from these great vintages.
Valdicava is recognized as the finest Brunello's made today. There's Brunello and then there's Valdicava. Valdicava has proven itself as the benchmark wine from Brunello di Montalcino. I am always amazed when tasting a flight of the finest Brunello's how head and shoulders above the other wines Valdicava is. The last great vintage for Brunello was 2001 and the Valdicava Madonna del Piano got 100 pts by James Suckling, the European Editor In Chief of the Wine Spectator. Suckling has since left the Wine Spectator, lives in Tuscany and is considered the worlds leading authority on wines from Tuscany. Suckling has again given the 2006 Valdicava Madonna del Piano Brunello Riserva 100 pts.The wine is perfection, the greatest Brunello in the greatest vintage. Red wine does not get better. I also highly recommend the regular 2007 Valdicava Brunello which at its price point is recognized as one of the greatest red wines in the world. The style of the 2007 vintage, opulent and rich, is ideal for one of the greatest Valdicava's ever. I tasted the wine about two weeks ago and it blew the doors of. We also opened a bottle of 2001 vintage, the last great vintage of Brunello to compare and I think the 2007 is even better, more balanced in its youth. The 2001 got 98 points by Wine Spectator. 2003, 2004 and 2006 got 95 pts by Wine Spectator. We have a pre-sell on the incredible wines with huge savings. We also have large formats to offer. Tasting Notes: 2006 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Madonna del Piano: Even though this will not be on the market until March, it shows such amazing structure of firm tannins that are super polished and rich. It’s full-bodied with an incredible richness, intensity, and energy. There’s such purity and precision to this wine. What great power and balance. I love the character of dark fruits, wet earth, and porcini mushrooms. Perfect clarity to this wine. How can a Brunello be better than this? 100 points.
