Red Wine Hand-Picked
96 Pts RP r The 2008 Ornellaia has really come together beautifully over the last few months. Up until fairly recently it was a tightly wound, inaccessible wine, but it has begun to blossom quite nicely. The 2008 is a cool, inward Ornellaia graced with exquisite finesse in its dark fruit, mocha, licorice, tar and spices. I especially like the minerality and focus. There is a fabulous balance between the tannins of this structured, powerful vintage, but with gorgeous fleshiness and pliancy that makes the wine very attractive, even at this early stage. It will be fascinating to watch the 2008 develop over the coming years and decades. The 2008 growing season was marked by a rainy, wet spring which resulted in an irregular flowering and naturally low yields. The summer was hot, but temperatures cooled towards the end of the summer, particularly at night, so important for the development of color, aromatics and full phenolic ripeness in varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a big, massively structured Ornellaia built for the cellar. In 2008 the blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The 2008 Ornellaia spent about 20 months in French oak barrels, 70% new. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.

This is another strong set of wines from Tenuta dell’Ornellaia. The 2008 Ornellaia is back to its usual high level after a slightly perplexing 2007, while the 2008 Masseto is another in a fine line of vintages for this Tuscan icon. Readers should be on the lookout for a complete vertical of Masseto, back to the inaugural 1986 Il Merlot dell’Ornellaia, which will be posted on www.erobertparker.com in the coming weeks. Needless to say, it was an amazing tasting.

CAMPO ALLA SUGHERA ARNIONE 2007

93 Pts RP r 93 pts Parker
Save 50%
Regular Price $100.00
Now $59.99
The 2007 Bolgheri Superiore Arnione is gorgeous in this vintage. Sweet floral notes meld into ripe red cherries, plums and grilled herbs. The wine impresses for its textural elegance, finesse, silky tannins and lovely overall balance. Arnione is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Parkers WA
Bolgheri is home to the greatest Super Tuscans stars of our time, Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Guado al Tasso come from Bolgheri. These are some of the most collected and sought after red wines in the world. One of the smaller estates in Bogheri is a house called Campo Alla Sughera. Parker’s WA comments that the wine are outstanding and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Their wines rival the finest Super Tuscans in Bolgheri. Their vineyards are a stones throw from Ornellaia.

I have been able to secure an insane offer on their flagship wine from the awesome 2007 vintage, Tuscany’s with 2006 best back to back vintages ever, the 2007 Campo Alla Sughera Arnione. The wine is a typical blend from Bolgheri all Bordeaux varietals, 40% Cabernet, 20% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc and 20% Petit Verdot, with Bolgheri’s similarity in climate and proximity to the Atlantic, echoing Bordeaux. The vineyards are managed and the wine is made the same way as a First Growth Bordeaux. Il Mio Vinvo, publication of Italy’s Tre Bichierri Award ranks the 2007 Arnione as one of the best red wines in Italy. Parker loved the wine giving it 93 points, calling the wine gorgeous in this vintage. I tasted the wine last night and it is gorgeous, very much like Ornellaia in style, sleek, sexy, velvety, rich tarry black fruits, like cashmere on the finish. The wine is at the pinnacle. Now the price for the wine is listed at $100 a bottle. We can offer it in a case at $53.99. Killer Super Tuscan from Bolgheri, from a great vintage, with huge scores at half price that drinks a ton. This is a great offer. First come first served.
