Tasting Notes: The top cuvee, the 1990 Val Sotillo Reserva, is a classic, super-rich, full-bodied, marvelously-concentrated wine that should age effortlessly for 20-25+ years. Made from extremely old vines, the wine reveals a saturated, opaque purple color, and a huge, intense nose of black fruits, minerals, licorice, and spice. Full-bodied, with sweeter tannin than the 1991 Mesoneros de Castilla Crianza, this is a youthful, awesomely rich wine, whose tannin level is concealed by a remarkable quantity of concentrated fruit. It will evolve slowly over the next 20+ years. It is a great bargain since this estate is only known by a handful of insiders.

This wine is made from an old clone of the Tempranillo grape, called Tinta del Pais. It is an impressive wine from an up and coming star of this undiscovered viticultural region.
