This is one of the finest Rieslings that we have tasted this year and it just can't be touched for under $20. The wine is all about balance and harmony of flavors. You can hold this wine in the mouth for 30 to 40 seconds and it still maintains its structure. Schloss Vollrads is one of the all stars in the Rheingau. The viticultural history of this estate dates back to the early Middle Ages.
Tasting Notes: Very clear, very pale straw color shows glints of gold. Sealed with a glass "Vino-Lok" apothecary-style closure, its refined and fresh aromas speak of Bosc pear, ripe apples and distant wildflowers. On the palate, fresh apple fruit, juicy peach flavors with a very slight prickle, is nicely shaped by crisp but not overwhelming acidity and lightweight 10.5% alcohol. Apples and a fresh lemon zest character linger in a medium finish. A benchmark Riesling at an entry level price.
