The 2007 vintage for Sonoma Chardonnay is a classic, scoring 96 pts by the Wine Spectator, describing the wines as: Ripe, complex, balanced and ageworthy wines. Many brilliant bottles from all appellations. One of the legendary winemakers in Sonoma is William Knuttel. Mr Knuttel currently is executive Winemaker for Dry Creek Vineyards and the owner/winemaker of Ultra premium Russian River Zin Ottimino. He was the Zap winemaker in 2005 making their Heritage Zin. In the past he made wines for Chalk Hill and Saintsbury establishing both houses as leaders of top flight Chardonnays. Mr Knuttel also makes a delicious Sonoma Chardonnay under the Robin K Label named after his wife and we fell in love with the wine. Chardonnay at this price point does not get better.
Classic Burgundian techniques were used to make this gorgeous Chardonnay. Fruit was handpicked and whole cluster pressed to ensure delicate handling and maximum flavor retention. The growing season in 2007 could not have been more spectacular. Optimum grape maturation allowed for the development of classic Chardonnay Characteristics. The wine was aged on its lees and went through malolactic fermentation and the wine spent 15 months in small French oak. The result is a fully integrated Chardonnay of oak and copious concentrated tropical fruit. Their is also hints of ripe red apple, lemon spice and apple custard. The wines creamy finish makes it a great match with sea food and white meats.
