Average age of vines is over fifty years with ten acres of over ninety five year old vines. Biodynamic since 1990 and with six years in the bottle, this wine is starting to sing. I was raiding a wine warehouse and tasted this incredible Marcoux. Neuf lovers this wines blows the doors off.

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Tasting Notes:

This year there is huge demand for the spectacular Southern Rhone's from 2010. The great wines from the Southern Rhone are the Chateauneuf du Papes and people in the know are clamoring/lining up for the best Chateauneufs from this incredible vintage. Parker himself tastes the Southern Rhone and he has declared 2010 a GREAT VINTAGE with some producers commenting that their 2010's will eclipse their 2007's. Parker comments that, I can't remember a vintage so concentrated, powerful and rich...Weather conditions were near perfect. The 2010's will have significant aging potential, they have excellent tannic structures. The tannins however are sweet, supple with exceptional elegance and finesse. The Southern Rhone is offering an embarrassment of riches and more and more wine lovers are beating down the door to get these outstanding wines. There is one massive problem with this great vintage. The crop was very small, 30 to 40% of all Grenache grapes were lost, the dominant grape varietal in the Southern Rhone. This was due to a viticulture problem, the French call coulure and millerandage which results in uneven berry size and different levels of grape maturity. If in a normal year let say 1000 cases of a wine are made, in 2010 only 500 to 700 cases were made. Availability of these great wines is going to be a definite problem.Domaine Brusset are top four producer in Gigondas, an Appelation not as famous as Chateauneuf du Pape but the best are every bit as good but at a much lower price. This important domaine has vineyards spread throughout the southern Rhone, primarily in Gigondas and its neighboring villages. Domaine Brusset was among the first estates to introduce small barrels (barriques) for aging their top cuvee, the old vine Les Hauts de Montmirail. After an extravagant use of wood in the early days, they have gotten the marriage between wood and fruit to a nearly ideal point. We have three of their finest wines in the 2010 vintage that have got massive scores at low prices. This is a Pre-Sell.
Tasting Notes: Domaine Brusset’s Cairannes are both beautiful wines as well as outstanding bargain . Even deeper-colored, richer, and longer, the 200 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne is a beautifully made, full-bodied, spicy, peppery, garrigue-laced effort with outstanding purity and depth.

PRE-SELL DELIVERY SPRING

My focus and reason for the trip was to taste the 2010 vintage, some were in bottle and some still in tank. The wines are superb, about as complete a vintage that I can remember, Superbly expressive fruit on the nose and palate but not over the top. Rich yet classy with superb palate cores and structure and tannins that bode extremely well for the cellar but are balanced and in complete harmony with the wines.”, John Caplan.

The Southern Rhone is offering an embarrassment of riches and more and more wine lovers are beating down the door to get these outstanding wines. The King of the Southern Rhone is a gentleman by the name of Philippe Cambie who has now made more 100 pt Parker wine than any other winemaker. Mr. Cambie made the spectacular wine we have to offer today the 2010 Domaine Barville Chateauneuf du Pape ‘Optimum”. This is a special Cuvee that is only made in the greatest vintages and 2010 is one of the all-time greats. The world of wine yields great treasure from different parts of the world in a given year. This year there is huge demand for the spectacular Southern Rhone's from 2010. Only 400 cases of the Optimum were made, Parker’s WA loved the wine, 95 pts and being priced under fifty. This is a great buy. This house continues to dramatically improve the quality of its wines since Laurent Brotte, the grandson of the founder, Charles Brotte, took over management in 2000.

The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine Barville Optimum (a cuvee only made in exceptional vintages) is a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. Aromas of Asian spices, soy, fig, kirsch liqueur, lead pencil shavings, plums, earth and pepper jump from the glass of this deep, full-bodied, concentrated 2010. There are approximately 400 cases of this wine, which should age effortlessly for 20 years.

Pre-Sell Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: The stunning 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (from 80-100+ year old vines) gives some credibility to the vignerons’ arguments that in the drought-stricken 2009 growing season, the northern Chateauneuf du Pape parcels were less impacted than those in the south. Domaine La Milliere’s vineyards are all in the northern sector. The deep ruby/purple-hued 2009 possesses abundant blackberry, black cherry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of camphor, truffles, garrigue and licorice. Dense, thick and rich, it is potentially one of the few 2009 Chateauneuf du Papes that will eclipse its 2007 counterpart. An opulent, voluptuous texture, long finish and heady combination of herbs and super-concentrated fruit make for a wine that can be drunk upon release or cellared for 12-15 years.

Delivery End Of Year, Oct., Nov.

Pre-Sell Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts RP r 95 pts Parker Pre-sell
Tasting Notes: I tasted through various foudres of the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape and it is unquestionably a top-flight wine for Clos des Papes that is seductive and forward by the standards of this estate. It reminded me of the precocious style of the 2003, and Avril told me the 2009 is less alcoholic than either the 2003 or 2007, and the pH is a normal 3.75. Yields were a very small 20 hectoliters per hectare, largely because of their selection process and the drought. Every foudre I tasted was beautifully pure displaying a deep ruby/plum color, sweet kirsch and black raspberry fruit, full body, decent acidity (they never acidify here) and sweet, velvety tannins. This should turn out to be a mid-90-point wine that will take a back seat to the 2007, possibly even to their monumental 2006, but will surpass what they did in 2008, 2005, 2004, 1999 and 1998. The 2009 is a beautiful success that should drink well for 15+ years.
