Red Wine Hand-Picked 90 Pts RP r <B>Tasting Notes:</B> The 2009 Avante is 100% Mencia sourced from multiple vineyards with an average age of 43 years. The wine was aged in both stainless steel (30%) and French oak (70%) for 5 months. It offers up notes of earthy minerals, a hint of balsamic, black cherries, and violets leading to a nicely proportioned, sweetly fruited, savory red with excellent volume and length. It is an outstanding value for drinking over the next 4-5 years.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 90 Pts RP r <b>Tasting Notes:</b> The 2008 Baltos made from 100% Mencia and aged for 6 months in seasoned French and American barriques. It offers up an earthy minerality along with aromas of cherry cola and spicy black fruits. Dense, rich, and layered on the palate, this juicy, pleasure-bent effort has enough stuffing to evolve for 1-2 years but can be approached now. It is an outstanding value.<br><br>The vineyards are scattered throughout the Bierzo region in northwestern Spain near Cabanelas, Valtuille, and Almazcara at elevations of 500 meters above sea level. While the soil does vary slightly from one vineyard location to another, it is mostly clayey and calcareous. Being bush vines with an average age of 45 years, the gobelet training method is employed with a planting density of 3000 vines/hectare. Although not certified organic, Dominio de Tares does all it can to respect the environment in its viticultural practices. Enjoy with grilled meats and seasoned chicken dishes, as well as tomato-based pasta dishes.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 91 Pts RP r <b>Jaw Dropping Quality Spanish Red</b><br><b>That Is All About Everything Being In The Right Place</b><br><br>The red wines from Northern Spain are cool climate wines and when you find a great one they, they offer superb balance and sophistication and they drink unbelievably well. Case in point is this superb red from the region of Bierzo, the 2007 Tilenus Mencia. The region of Bierzo is like taking a trip back in time. The inhabitants live and make wine the same way they did a hundred years ago. Vineyards are all on trellised hillsides very much like Cote Rotie. The noble grape of the region is Mencia which is very much like a Bordeaux varietal grape, like Cabernet or Malbec. The quality wines from this area are ethereal, balanced, complex and elegant. They drink like wines that from other regions of the world would three to four times the price. The Tilenus is a gorgeous red that Parker loved giving it 91 pts. The SRP on the wine is $23.99 however by the case I can offer it to you for $18.99. This is an amazing buy that is drinking superbly now, perfect for the cooler months ahead. The great Raul Perez consults on this wine. A tremendously good, complete wine at a great price. Unfortunately our allocation was cut in half because of the rating.<br><br><b>Tasting Notes:</b> The 2007 Envejecido en Roble exhibits a perfume of toasty oak, Asian spices, lilacs, and black raspberry. In the glass it displays layers of spicy fruit, a hint of minerality, and a sense of elegance. Nicely proportioned and lengthy, it is likely to evolve for 1-2 years and offer prime drinking. <b>91pts Robert Parker</b>

It was aged for a few weeks in new French barriques followed by 6-10 months in seasoned barrels. It shows lovely density and purity in an up-front style. With excellent volume and length, it is a classy introduction to what can be achieved in the DO of Bierzo. Descendientes de Jose Palacios was founded in 1998 by Alvaro Palacios and Ricardo Perez. The estate has steep hillside vineyards ranging in age from 60-100 years planted to 100% Mencia, the indigenous grape of cool-climate Bierzo. The vineyards are biodynamically farmed and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
