Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for 14 days at a maximum temperature of 28 ºC. The malolactic fermentation process was completed in 21 days and after racking the wine was transferred to casks in March, 2001. This Viña Ardanza remained in American oak casks, which were an average of 4 years old, for 36 months, being racked by hand 6 times. It was bottled in March, 2004. For the first time ever, it is also available in Magnum size. “The current release is the 2001 Reserva Especial, a deeply colored wine with a lovely perfume of cinnamon, lavender, incense, balsamic, and black cherry. Medium-bodied, velvety-textured, and already complex, it will continue to evolve for another 5-10 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2036. For those seeking immediate gratification, it has the virtue of being approachable now.”

Pre-Sell Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r 94 pts Parker
The 2010 Vintage For Southern Rhone Is Classic.
Great Gigondas Producer.
Same Quality as Chateauneuf du Pape
At a Lower Price.
The world of wine yields great treasure from different parts of the world in a given year. This year there is huge demand for the spectacular Southern Rhone's from 2010. The great wines from the Southern Rhone are the Chateauneuf du Papes and people in the know are clamoring/lining up for the best Chateauneufs from this incredible vintage. Parker himself tastes the Southern Rhone and he has declared 2010 a GREAT VINTAGE with some producers commenting that their 2010's will eclipse their 2007's. Parker comments that, I can't remember a vintage so concentrated, powerful and rich...Weather conditions were near perfect. The 2010's will have significant aging potential, they have excellent tannic structures. The tannins however are sweet, supple with exceptional elegance and finesse. The Southern Rhone is offering an embarrassment of riches and more and more wine lovers are beating down the door to get these outstanding wines. There is one massive problem with this great vintage. The crop was very small, 30 to 40% of all Grenache grapes were lost, the dominant grape varietal in the Southern Rhone. This was due to a viticulture problem, the French call coulure and millerandage which results in uneven berry size and different levels of grape maturity. If in a normal year let say 1000 cases of a wine are made, in 2010 only 500 to 700 cases were made. Availability of these great wines is going to be a definite problem.Domaine Brusset are top four producer in Gigondas, an Appelation not as famous as Chateauneuf du Pape but the best are every bit as good but at a much lower price. This important domaine has vineyards spread throughout the southern Rhone, primarily in Gigondas and its neighboring villages. Domaine Brusset was among the first estates to introduce small barrels (barriques) for aging their top cuvee, the old vine Les Hauts de Montmirail. After an extravagant use of wood in the early days, they have gotten the marriage between wood and fruit to a nearly ideal point. We have three of their finest wines in the 2010 vintage that have got massive scores at low prices. This is a Pre-Sell.
Tasting Notes:A superb offering, the 2010 Gigondas Tradition Les Grands Montmirail reveals a more saturated purple color as well as more concentration, definition and precision. It is a refreshing, vibrant, full-bodied wine to drink over the next 12-15 years.

PRE-SELL DELIVERY SPRING

Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia bursts onto the palate in a big, brooding expression of Sangiovese from Castelnuovo Berardenga. Muscular and dense to the core, the 2007 powers all the way through to the long finish. Hints of smoke, tar, leather and scorched earth emerge over time, but only with great reluctance. In a vintage where so many wines are open, the Rancia comes across as quite stubborn and in need of at least five more years in bottle. That said, it is a standout, not to mention one of the greatest values in fine, age-worthy wine. In a second tasting the 2007 Rancia came across as decidedly more elegant and restrained in style, so it will be interesting to see where this ultimately settles within the context of recent vintages. Today I don’t think the 2007 has the elegance of the 2004 nor the power and ageworthiness of the 2006, but we will see. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r “The 2005 Etim L'Esparver is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 45% Carinena, and the balance Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine went through malolactic fermentation in 500-liter French oak after which it spent 20 months in barrique. Opaque purple-colored, the wine offers up a sexy nose of herbs, sage, crushed stone, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur which comes blasting from the glass. Layered, opulent, firm, and muscular, this large-scaled, lengthy wine should be cellared for 8-10 years. It should be at its best from 2015 to 2035.”

White Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: The power and honeyed notes of the 2008 Chardonnay Mount Carmel are dramatic. This plush, up-front style of Chardonnay from Brewer and Clifton often reminds me of a California version of a Batard-Montrachet. The wine is light gold in color, with notes of honeyed nuts intermixed with crushed rock, lemon butter, orange rind, and pear. Broad, savory, rich, and showy, this wine tips the scales at 14% natural alcohol.

Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton continue to follow a strict philosophy of only using grapes from cool-climate Santa Rita Hills vineyards. Additionally, they have reduced what was a very tiny percentage of new oak to zero, as they prefer the vineyard sites and vintage character to be showcased without any cosmetic makeup. All of these Chardonnays (unlike Greg Brewer’s project, called Diatom) are put through full malolactic fermentation and bottled without filtration. The 2008s are elegant, tightly coiled Chardonnays with full flavor, and seem to have plenty of up-side. Their wines are extremely long-lived by California standards, with their 2000 Chardonnays still remarkably young, and their 2000 Pinot Noirs all seeming to have another decade of aging ability.

Pre-Sell Arriving December

Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r The term Super Tuscan was famously created with greats Sassicaia and Tignanello in mind. Last night I tasted a wine I can't get out of my mind. The term Super Tuscan fits it like a glove. 2006 Fattoria Poggiopiano Rosso di Sera is one of the great pleasures of wine. This is a superb, supple, head-of-the-class Sangiovese from a serious, 17 hectare, family-owned winery. Pogggiopiano's hillside vineyards in San Casciano Val di Pesa , just south of Florence, has seven 90+ wines from Parker since the '97 vintage and eight 90+ from Wine Spectator since '96. 2006 Rosso di Sera is 94 points from Parker and that only begins to tell the tale. Deep, dark-as-ink purple colored, the power of its structure is hinted at in the nose of super-concentrated blackberry with pencil shavings dustiness. On palate the Sangiovese fruit from the 96 point rated 2006 vintage explodes with richness. Neutral oak does its part for tannic backbone and cellaring will bring this Super Tuscan to stunning heights. But a great such as this from an all-time vintage is at heart all about the fruit. This opulent powerhouse shows ripe yet fresh black fruit complexity with firm yet ultimately silky tannins. As the wine spends time in the glass the back palate opens up in stupendously delicious fashion. 2006 Poggiopiano Rosso di Sera rivals, indeed surpasses, many from Tuscany priced well over $100 a bottle. Our price of $65.99 for this supple stunner is below its release price. This is a great wine from an outstanding vintage. Tuscany has never been more Super.

Tasting Notes: I was quite taken with Poggiopiano’s 2006 Rosso di Sera, (90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino). This opaque, full-bodied red flows with masses of super-ripe dark fruit layered with scents of new leather, graphite and French oak. The wine possesses superb density and richness in a full-bodied, intense style. The tannins from the oak remain rather firm and unyielding at this stage, but in a few years’ time the 2006 Rosso di Sera should begin strutting its stuff. The long, polished finish is that of a first-class wine. This is a remarkable effort from Poggiopiano. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.

Average age of vines is over fifty years with ten acres of over ninety five year old vines. Biodynamic since 1990 and with six years in the bottle, this wine is starting to sing. I was raiding a wine warehouse and tasted this incredible Marcoux. Neuf lovers this wines blows the doors off.

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Tasting Notes:

Pre-Sell Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: Far more structured, with significant minerality, power and tannin is the dense ruby/purple-colored 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine (45% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre). This cuvee is always aged in 100% small barrels, of which 9-10% are new. A backward wine for the vintage, it reveals serious structure, powerful tannin and abundant mineral notes backed up by full body and impressive layers of fruit and structure. It requires 4-5 years of cellaring, and should last 15-20 years thereafter.

Deep purple in color, the wine has a hugely expressive nose of spice box, herbs, black currants, and blackberry reminiscent of a top-level Saint-Emilion. The flavors already are complex as well as rich, the texture velvety, and the balance impeccable. This elegant wine can be enjoyed now but should last for at least another 10 years.
