The vineyards, cellers and all wine making equipment were developed towards the end of the 1960s, with progressive adaptation and constant up dating of both the land and the cellars. Innovative cultivation systems and, in particular, several clones are still experienced today on the estates extending over an area of 190 hectares comprising 85 hectares of vineyards, 4 of olive groves, 87 of woodlands and 14 of sowable land.<p>Caparzo aims to ensure top quality products through meticulous, craftsmanlike techniques while equality taking a modern approach to management, an efficiency and business relationships. More that thirty years have passed since the first rows were planted in the vineyards and the various local terrors, at the same time as enhancing its wines with creative sprit and dedication to innovation as a means of ensuring the highest possible quality. This is why wines are served by the most famous restaurants in the world, as well as at international meetings and on official State occasions.<p><b>Tasting Notes:</b>A floral and perfumed nose, with raspberries and blackberries. He still makes the wines but it is now called Jericho Canyon Vineyards<p><b>Tasting Notes:</b> The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Jericho Canyon Vineyard (a 1,730-case cuvee of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc) has an inky dark ruby/purple color, a wonderfully sweet nose of espresso roast, fudge, blackberry, and cassis with a hint of incense and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, broadly flavored, opulent, and voluptuous, and that in itself seems to give the wine its current appeal, although I think this is a candidate for at least two decades of cellaring.

The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple. A classic nose of overripe black currants, plums, and sweet vanillin is followed by a wine with considerable opulence, and a seductive, fleshy mouthfeel. The wine's low acidity and gorgeously pure, rich fruit with copious quantities of glycerin make for a beautiful tasting experience. Composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 Illustration reveals sweeter fruit, more opulence and flamboyance, and plenty of spice, wood smoke, black currant, plum, and licorice notes. Already drinking beautifully, this complex 2007 should continue to evolve and provide gracious, satisfying drinking for at least 12-15 years.<br><br>This impressive portfolio was assembled by winemaker Aaron Pott and consulting winemaker Sarah Gott (her husband owns the incredibly successful fast-food chain of Taylor’s Refresher in San Francisco, Napa, and St. Helena – which makes the best cheeseburger and Ahi burger in the land). All of these offerings reveal beautiful balance, suppleness, and intensity. Production runs between 200-300 cases for most of the cuvees, with the Illustration maxing out at 1,200 cases. Blackbird’s mission statement is to make artisanal, Pomerol-inspired wines from Napa Valley, and they appear to be succeeding. The estate vineyard is in the Oak Knoll district, which is well-known for deep, loamy, gravelly soils
