Medium in body, the wine reveals outstanding balance and depth, with gorgeous inner perfume and a long, refined close. Sweet notes of menthol, raspberries and spices linger on the finish. The 2005 doesn’t have the sheer exuberance of the 2004 and the firm tannins might make this wine hard to fully appreciate in its infancy, but with some time in bottle, this, too, will very likely develop into a gem. It displays a less ostentatious nose but has even better delineation with scents of red cherries, wild strawberry and gravel, the palate full-bodied and ripe with layers of thick black fruits on the finish. If you can help it, will Improve big time with cellaring. There's an ongoing sense of depth and power in the wines bouquet, great black fruits and the oak is superbly integrated. The palate is big and dense, substantial but never clumsy. The back palate is superb as the wine peaks in your mouth and then falls away to a very long, layered finish. Tannins are very refined and approachable yet abundant which bodes well for the cellar. This wine is all about quality, power and balance. Superb!

Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts RP r I am a huge fan of Napa Cab and one of my all-time favorites over the last ten years has just become available in the classic 2007 vintage. The 2007 vintage for Napa Cabernet is truly spectacular. Parker has given the vintage the highest rating he has ever given a vintage and Spectator has declared 2007 the <b>Vintage Of The Decade.</b> I have tasted all the best that have come through and the Cabernets are exquisite, definitely as good as 1994, superbly rich and opulent, excellent structure, wonderful fruit but not over the top matched with superb elegance, balance and finesse. The Cabernet that captures all this brilliantly well and at a reasonable price is the 2007 Anderson's Conn Valley Cabernet Reserve. Year in year out this is one of the wines I look most forward to. The wine is always superb and in 2007 it just hits another gear. Todd Anderson came to Napa in the mid 1980's and has marched to his own drum ever since. He picks late and goes for optimal ripeness and in 2007 the grapes were historically rich and intense. Now in bottle the result is a benchmark Cabernet Reserve. Parker loves the wine, 95+ points and lavishes the wine with praise. Andersons Conn Valley Cabernet Reserve is also recognized as one of the most age worthy of them all. A recent tasting was held of this wine from the 1990's and the wines were just hitting their stride but what's even better is that with this incredible vintage and the gorgeous fruit concentration, the 2007 is drinking brilliantly young as well.<br><br>Pure creme de cassis intertwined with floral and licorice notes are present in the inky/purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Rich, full-bodied, and meant for long-term aging, it should hit its peak in 7-8 years, and evolve for 25-30 years. These brilliant 2007s are some of the strongest efforts that have emerged from Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards over the last decade.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 94 Pts RP r The term Super Tuscan was famously created with greats Sassicaia and Tignanello in mind. Last night I tasted a wine I can't get out of my mind. The term Super Tuscan fits it like a glove. 2006 Fattoria Poggiopiano Rosso di Sera is one of the great pleasures of wine. This is a superb, supple, head-of-the-class Sangiovese from a serious, 17 hectare, family-owned winery. Pogggiopiano's hillside vineyards in San Casciano Val di Pesa , just south of Florence, has seven 90+ wines from Parker since the '97 vintage and eight 90+ from Wine Spectator since '96. 2006 Rosso di Sera is 94 points from Parker and that only begins to tell the tale. Deep, dark-as-ink purple colored, the power of its structure is hinted at in the nose of super-concentrated blackberry with pencil shavings dustiness. On palate the Sangiovese fruit from the 96 point rated 2006 vintage explodes with richness. Neutral oak does its part for tannic backbone and cellaring will bring this Super Tuscan to stunning heights. But a great such as this from an all-time vintage is at heart all about the fruit. This opulent powerhouse shows ripe yet fresh black fruit complexity with firm yet ultimately silky tannins. As the wine spends time in the glass the back palate opens up in stupendously delicious fashion. 2006 Poggiopiano Rosso di Sera rivals, indeed surpasses, many from Tuscany priced well over $100 a bottle. Our price of $65.99 for this supple stunner is below its release price. This is a great wine from an outstanding vintage. Tuscany has never been more Super.<br><br><b>Tasting Notes:</b> I was quite taken with Poggiopiano’s 2006 Rosso di Sera, (90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino). This opaque, full-bodied red flows with masses of super-ripe dark fruit layered with scents of new leather, graphite and French oak. The wine possesses superb density and richness in a full-bodied, intense style. The tannins from the oak remain rather firm and unyielding at this stage, but in a few years’ time the 2006 Rosso di Sera should begin strutting its stuff. The long, polished finish is that of a first-class wine. This is a remarkable effort from Poggiopiano. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.
