One Of The Worlds Great White Wines
This Wine Has Become A Huge Customer Favorite
Some of the finest white wine in all of Europe comes from a part of Piedmont in Italy called Gavi. Its name is derived from the town Gavi which is at the center of the production zone. This region famous for its great Barolo and Barbaresco make a white wine in Gavi from a grape called Cortese that rival the best. Gavi is considered Piedmonts white jewel in the crown. Gavi was Italy's first white wine to gain international repute and the vineyards are on the hillsides in the province of Allesandria. The wines are fresh, fruity and alive with superb acidity and minerality, served at 50 degrees and are delicious as an aperitif, with appetizers or any light food. If you enjoy the finest Sauvignon Blancs from the Southern Hemisphere or the Loire Valley. If you enjoy Pinot Grigio or Albarino. It is time to try Gavi! The problem with top quality Gavi is that they are expensive, priced between $30 to $50 for the best. We have found a Gavi that rivals the finest under twenty a bottle and the wine is absolutely spectacular. The 2010 Porzia Gavi is made by Tenuta la Marchesa, one of the most important estates in Gavi dating back to 1750. The wine is utterly irresistible with perfumed apricots, peaches, mint and flowers. Fresh and live on the palate showing citrus and white stoned fruits. The finish is crisp and refreshing with lovely acidity that get the juices flowing with a subtle hint of minerality running across the top of the palate. This wine will become your go to white wine. It has excellent drink-ability, you open a bottle for guests and start a conversation and within minutes it will be gone and you will be pulling another cork.
Tasting Notes: Pale straw color, with delicate greenish highlights. Intense fruit and floral fragrance. On the palate it is strongly typical of Gavi: fruity and flinty with notes of almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts lingering in the finish. Nose: Intense, long, continuous, persistent, from fruited to flowery to stage of development. Palate: Highly typical, flinty accents; almonds and hazelnut in the finale. Gastronomic accompaniments: Excellent with any meal; also for the usual pairings with white wines (fish, shellfish and seafood), well paired with white meats, fowl and light meats. Also ideal as aperitif and after dinner.
