Red Wine Hand-Picked
90 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: A polished, delicious red. Dark in color, with intense crushed raspberries, coffee and black pepper. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a pretty, delicate berry aftertaste. Its taste is dry, rich, savory and harmonic. Velvety, this is one of those rare wines that comes in at a fair price while balancing a delicate body with intense aromatics and flavors. A very cool find. This is a big wine packed with wild cherries, blackberry jam, ash, grilled herbs and spices. Deeply colored and equally intense, this full-throttle Piedirosso offers plenty of depth in a full-bodied style. The wine offers terrific length on the palate and continues to build on the finish. No rusticity you normally find in these wines. Enjoy now and over the next four years.

MASTROBERARDINO GRECO DI TUFO
sku # 2478811
White Wine Hand-Picked
90 Pts ST 90pts Tanzer

Some of my favorite white wines is Greco di Tufo from Campania, Italy and when I can find a good that is not expensive, we have to recommend like this one from one of the great houses of Campania Mastro berardino.
Straw-yellow in color, this Greco di Tufo offers intense aromas of apricots and peaches. On the palate, the wine shows great structure and zesty acidity, leaving an overall impression of complexity and elegance. Pairs perfectly with seafood, grilled fish, cold dishes or simply as an aperitif.Hints of citrus, smoke, grapefruit and minerals add complexity on the round finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
Tanzer: Pale straw. Serious, sexy aromas and flavors of poached pear, candied ginger and orange jam. Fat, sweet and suave, with enticing firming acidity giving shape to the wine. Plenty of stuffing here for an entry-level greco. Finishes minerally, spicy and persistent, with good spine and verve.
Greco di Tufo is a DOCG of the Campania wine region in southern Italy. It is arguably the region's most prestigiuous white wine, and is made predominantly from the grape variety which shares its name. The Greco di Tufo grape variety is a clone of Greco Bianco and was apparently brought to Campania by the Pelasgians, an ancient Greek people from Thessaly. The name Tufo refers not only to one of the villages from which the wine comes, but also the type of rock on which the village was built.
The best expression of the Greco di Tufo vine is found on the volcanic hills of the Avellino province in central Campania, and only eight villages can legally claim to make Greco di Tufo: Tufo, Montefusco, Petruro Irpino, Chianche, Torrioni, Altavilla, Irpina and Prata di Principato Ultra.
Greco di Tufo wines stand out from the crowd thanks to the unique characteristics of the sulfur- and tufa-rich volcanic and clay soils; it is believed that these lend the wine its perfume and mineral complexity. The refreshing, crisp white wines are known for their aromatic notes of lemons, pears and toasted almonds, and a lingering mineral finish.
Excellent with seafood, grilled fish, poultry, cold dishes and as an aperitif.
