THIS IS ONE OF THOSE GREAT OFFERS
THE BEST PART IS THAT THE WINE IS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR
This one blew the doors off. I was recently in Europe and tasted a spectacular red from Toro that was absolutely fantastic. I am a huge fan of Toro. Parker has been quoted as saying that the next great red wine region in the world for red wine is Toro. Many of you know the great wines from this area: Numanthia, Vinedos Maurodos San Roman and Dos Victorias Elias Mora. The wines are rich opulent, elegant monsters that are as good as red wine gets. I went on to investigate and the hunt was on. I found that the men behind this gorgeous red was none other than French wine magnet Bernard Magrez, owner of Bordeaux estates, including Chateau Pape Clement and Chateau La Tour Carnet. In Decanter publication rank of the most powerful people of influence in the wine business, Magrez placed at number 29. The other partner involved is the famous French actor, Gerard Depardieu, who I have since discovered has been involved in wine for twenty years and is his second passion in life. The wine is the 2005 Pacienca and I set out to acquire some. First of all 2005 is a great vintage for Spanish reds, rivaling 2004 and 2001 as the best in the last fifteen years. I found that Spectator rated the 2004 at 91 pts at a price of $75 dollars a bottle. Parker rated the 2003 94 pts and the 2004 92 pts. The 2005 has not been rated yet because no one was bringing the wine to the USA, however I checked out pricing for the 2005 in Europe and it is selling for $85 to $95 a bottle. This is an unbelievable offer on a wine that I would put up against any wine from Toro. I strongly recommend you take advantage. This is as good an offer as the Cellars Fuentes Gran Clos from Priorat we offered earlier this year. Many of you have been screaming for more. Grab this wine, you will love it. If you love Napa Cabs, this is your wine. I can not stress enough what a great wine this is at the price.
Tasting Notes: Made from 40 year old Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo Strain) cropped to a measly 15 hectoliters per hectare, very low yields. The wine boasts extraordinary opulence and concentration. Spectacular bouquet of espresso roast with blueberry liquer, raspberries and creme de casis. The wine has great presence, richness and opulence with a long, heady finish. The wine has six years in the bottle and is showing superbly. Drink over the next five years.
