Barolo Aged To Perfection
And a deal to Match
The Nebbiolo grape that goes into the great Barbaresco and Barolo's from Piedmont age out better than just about any other grape. They improve dramatically with time in the bottle. They develop complexities, length and layering that can only be compared to great aged Grand Cru red burgundy. Last year I had some of the greats from Barolo from 1978 and 1982 and they were monumental wine experiences. I have been able to secure a Barolo from the excellent 1998 vintage that has been aged to perfection at an absolutely unbelievable price. 1998 was an excellent vintage for Barolo scoring 93pts by Spectator and 92 pts by Parker. I have a cellar full of Barolo from vintages over the last fifteen years and the 1998's are standing out, have entered its drinking window and are doing so with style. The vintage was marked by drought and in the last year or so the 1998's have begun to really shine. The wine comes from one of the great classic, traditional producers whose wines need time in the cellar to show themselves. Oddero is a historic name among Barolo producers. 18th century municipal records show that the vineyards and estate have belonged to the Oddero family for centuries. The 1998 Oddero Barolo is a blend of their great single vineyard properties, Rocche, Monduca and Vigna Rionda. During the winemaking process each single vineyard is kept separate. The wine is aged in 40 hectoliter French oak for 30 months and are then aged a further 6 months in the bottle prior to release. This is a great example of Barolo that is drinking gloriously. Now for the price. I have a limited amount that I can offer at a ridiculously low price. The wine regularly sells for $69.99. I can offer you this wine at $39.99 per bottle and $36.99 by the case. We are talking half price on one of the great red wines of the world that has been cellared to greatness. The wine has been stored in professional wine storage since its release and is pristine. This is a great buy and a golden opportunity to complete your wine experience and get your hands on a perfectly aged out Barolo at a great price.
Tasting Notes: Brilliant garnet-red color, with warmer tinges developing over time. Unmistakable bouquet, very pleasant, intense yet ethereal, very persistent, at times spiced, with aromas of truffles, liquorice and dried flowers. Dry taste, with important, full tannins. -Winery
