Many of you know that we are huge fans of the Malk Family Cabernet from Stags Leap in Napa. They make one of the smallest production, hardest to get cult Napa Cabs. Their winemaker is the great Robbie Myers. His resume includes Peter Michael, Lewis, Rudd and L'angevin. Robbie was doing a tasting at Grapes for us and he happen to mention that he was making wines for a new tiny producer in the hills of Stags Leap and the wines are awesome. The property, adjacent to the famous Fay vineyard is tiny and production was in the hundreds of cases. The hunt was on to get this Cabernet. We have since sold three vintages of the Cab: 2005, 2006 and 2007 and every bottle has been a treat. What we have not shared with you because we could never get any is that Malk makes a Sauvignon Blanc that rivals the finest made in California. I first tasted the wine with the 2009 vintage, only 80 cases were made and it flew out of the Winery directly. Owner Brian Malk sent me two bottles to try and I was smitten. We are talking Sauvignon Blanc at its pinnacle of what the grape can achieve. Production was increased slightly with 2010 and Brian very kindly gave us a small allocation to offer our best customers. Robbie commented that the 2010 Malk Family Sauvignon Blanc was even better than his own bottling. The wine has a depth and clarity that I have only found in the very finest of white wine. The Malk Sauvignon Blanc is one of the finest and most exclusive of summer whites, one of the finest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc I have tasted and you could not find a better white for the upcoming months. Treat your guests to the best in sophisticated summer drinking.

Tasting Notes: A lovely aromatic array bursts from the bottle at uncorking. Scents of ripe peach, kumquat and pear float on delicate wafts of green grass, graphite and vanilla, offering an exhilarating medley. At 30 minutes, notes of Granny Smith apple, straw and honeysuckle join the mix, creating even more interest. The palate is greeted by a lively mixture of peach and citrus, making for an intriguing interplay of sweet and tart fruit. A pleasant acidity offers promise of further development, and hints of fresh green leafiness, straw, apple, mulberry and honeysuckle drift through the center, mingling with one another in a delightful quadrille around the core of yellow fruit. This is a great wine to savor with friends on the porch on a spring afternoon.
