This flight compares red wines from around the world. The Brancott
bottling is made from Pinot Noir, the grape responsible for Burgundy's elegant
reds. With a lighter body and less tannin than most reds, Pinot offers a bridge
between whites and reds. The classic Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon
and Merlot is used for Clos du Bois' Marlstone Vineyard, combining the structure
of Cab with the softer fruit of Merlot. Spain's indigenous Tempranillo grape is
showcased by the Marques de Arienzo. This wine is from Rioja, one of Spain's
great wine regions, where extensive barrel-aging softens the tannins and
lightens the color. Finally, Atlas Peak is made from Sangiovese, the grapes
responsible for Tuscany's famous Chianti Classicos.
