This is a fabulous wine for the money. This wine should be in your cellar. The 2007 Tenuta Monteti Caburnio with a score of 92 pts by the Wine Spectator and a price of $15.99 is an absolute no-brainer. You know which other wines from the same area of Tuscany got 92 pts in the same vintage, we are talking Tignanello, Guado al Tasso, Gaja’s Ca’ Marcanda. These wines sell for $80 to $100 a bottle. Tenuta Monteti is situated in the southern part of Maremma, the coastal part of Tuscany which includes Bolgheri that is famous for great Super Tuscans. The area has proven itself to make great Bordeaux varietals wine, rivaling the likes of Bordeaux and Napa. The world renown Carlo Ferrini is assisting with wine making. He makes some of the greatest red wine in Tuscany today including the likes of Casanova di Neri, Petrolo, La Massa and Oreno. Monteti’s philosophy is to combine the practical blend of tradition with the benefits of the latest technology. The results are spectacular! The wine is made as natural as possible and is a blend of 51% Cabernet; 28% Alicante and 20% Merlot. This wine would be loved by all who like big, rich full bodied red wine. This is truly another spectacular value we seldom see from such a prestigious location.<BR><BR><B>Tasting Notes:</B> Fresh and focused flavors of black cherry, black currant and herbs that border on jammy, but never cross the line. Supple and smooth, offering ripe tannins and bright acidity for structure, with excellent length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante and Merlot. Best from 2012 through 2024. 92 pts Spectator. Parker on 2006, not tasted 2007 yet: The 2006 Caburnio is a big, boisterous wine that captures the essence of this important Tuscan vintage. Blackberries, grilled herbs, spices, menthol and cassis are some of the nuances that come together in the glass with tons of Maremma character. This is a fabulous wine for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.

90 Pts Wine Spectator Ripe plums, with hints of violets, coffee and vanilla. Full-bodied, with fine, well-integrated tannins, chocolate and berry flavors and a long, tight finish. Best after 2009. The two varieties are hand harvested separately in early October for best ripening and vinified separately with 15-22 days of maceration. Subsequently the wines are individually aged in 300-litre French barriques from Troncais and Allier for 12 months. At this point the wines are blended and further aged for 12 months in 300 litre French barriques and 12 months of bottle rest follow. Drinkable today, Kudos will age well for the next 10 years.
