Average age of vines is over fifty years with ten acres of over ninety five year old vines. Biodynamic since 1990 and with six years in the bottle, this wine is starting to sing. I was raiding a wine warehouse and tasted this incredible Marcoux. Neuf lovers this wines blows the doors off.

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Tasting Notes:

Red Wine Hand-Picked 92 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: Great wines are made in all vintages and Lesec’s Gigondas Cuvee Romaine 2006 is recognized as the finest he has made and is a spectacular example of Gigondas. The Gigondas appellation is the second most famous after Chateauneuf du Pape in the Southern Rhone. Many are as good if not better than Chateauneuf and they offer far better value. This wine cannot be touched in quality by any Chateauneuf under Fifty dollars a bottle. I love what Parker says about the wine: I was seduced by Lesec’s 2006 Gigondas Cuvee Romaine Les Espalines. It has more acidity than the 2005, but also more charm, fruit, and ripeness. A pretty wine with good tannin, minerality, black cherries, and herbs, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 10-12 years.

Bright red. Energetic strawberry and raspberry scents complicated by rose, lavender and baking spices. Tightly wound red fruit flavors fatten and deepen with air, picking up light tannins and finishing with excellent persistence. Combines sweetness and grip with a deft hand. The wine is 65% Grenache; 25% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah from 50+ year old vines. Covered with layers of small white stones, these lovely hillside vineyards in Gigondas have an ancient history dating back to the Romans.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts RP r Pre-Sell - Delivery will be Spring/Summer later this year
Tasting Notes: The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes is 84% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre from 80- to 90-year-old vines on pure limestone overlaid with the famed rocks the locals call galets roules. It is aged half in large wood foudres and the other half in 600-litre demi-miuds. This wine may turn out to be their best since their debut release of this cuvee in 1990. Full-bodied, with notes of kirsch, incense, black currant, cassis, plum, fig, and roasted Provencal herbs as well as some meaty juices, the wine is layered, dense, sexy, decadently rich and powerful, but incredibly well-balanced because of the freshness of the fruit in this vintage. This wine should age magnificently for 20+ years..

Sadly, as with most of the worlds most majestic wines, production is relatively limited, and the demand is insatiable.”Robert Parker
Over the past decade Jean-Paul Daumen has emerged as one of the most compelling winemakers in all of France. Taking advantage of his ancient vines in the Northern sector of Chateauneuf, and biodynamically farming the entire vineyard, he has produced extraordinary wines dating back to 1998 that have massive acclaim for the world’s most respected critics. Average age of vines are 60 years. His winemaking philosophy is quite simple- old vines, tiny yields, no SO2 during vinification, neutral or tank and no fining or filtration. His wines are benchmarks from the appellation. He only releases his wines when he feels they are ready. Until 2001 This cuvee was marked as VV.

Spectator: “Very ripe, but focused and pure, with a gorgeous core of crushed plum, pastis and raspberry ganache notes stitched together with long, velvety tannins. Spice, fruitcake and melted licorice notes echo through the superlong finish. It exhibits an inky/ruby/purple color, a great texture, and a gorgeous nose of boysenberries, blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, licorice, and incense. There is wonderful freshness and vibrancy (because of the good acids) as well as a terrific finish. Jean-Paul Dauman is one of a handful of Chateauneuf du Pape proprietors who believes his 2005s are better than what he produced in 2007, and I find it difficult to disagree relative to this estate's wines. Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: The single-vineyard wine from a special parcel of old vines and a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvedre is the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet. Opaque ruby/purple, this is a brilliant wine and one of the stars of the vintage. Full-bodied, with superb purity, loads of blackberry and kirsch notes intermix with smoke, creosote, incense, and truffle. Full, powerful, rich, with sweet tannin and good acidity.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: Bonneau’s 1986 is just hitting full maturity. It offers a concoction of jammy, concentrated licorice-infused black cherry fruit, with hints of tobacco, cedar, beef blood, smoked herbs, and Asian spices. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of licorice, Peking duck, and other exotic scents emerge. An amazing effort, it may be the only Reserve des Celestins I own that can be classified as fully mature. Anticipated maturity: now-2020.

7 Bottles Available

Red Wine Hand-Picked 96 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: Jan 2003: Beginning to throw off its cloak of tannin and start its evolution is the 1988. A dark plum/ruby color is accompanied by a sweet perfume of mushrooms, tree bark, black cherries macerated in brandy, and the tell-tale beef blood, lavender, cedar, and tobacco aromas. This full-bodied, powerful yet structured Reserve des Celestins does not reveal the pure breadth and depth of flavor found in the 1989 and 1990, but comes across as a mature example of the 1995. Anticipated maturity: now-2025.

17 Bottles Available

Red Wine Hand-Picked 100 Pts RP r No Hommage a Jacques Perrin was made in 2008, but the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin is an utterly perfect wine. Composed of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, and the rest Counoise and Grenache, this prodigious effort boasts an inky/blue/purple color to the rim in addition to an exceptional bouquet of camphor, roasted meats, blueberries, black cherries, black currants, truffles, beef blood, pepper, and incense. The sumptuous aromatics are followed by a wine of compelling intensity, full-bodied power, perfect balance, laser-like focus, and a finish that lasts more than a minute. The 2007's texture reminds me of the 1998 Jacques Perrin, and the freshness of the fruit and explosive aromatics are to die for. There are only 500 cases of this legend in the making, but for those lucky enough to find any, it will last for 40-60 years.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 99 Pts RP r Tasting Notes: Inching closer and closer to the celestial 1990, is the 1989. This cuvee was fabulous when tasted in Bonneau’s cellars, but it closed down after bottling. Possibly even more powerful and tannic than the 1990, as well as more backward, the 1989 looks to be a great classic. It is a Reserve des Celestins to forget for another 3-8 years. It possesses all the characteristics of the 1990, but everything is packed into a more linear personality. Amazing stuff! Anticipated maturity: 2009-2035.

6 Bottles Available
