Red Wine Hand-Picked 92 Pts RP r <b>Tasting Notes:</b> The 1985 is a corpulent, dense, powerful wine that is fully mature. Dark ruby-colored with moderate amber at the edge, this wine has a spicy, cassis, herb, and licorice-scented nose, good acidity, and excellent depth and length.<br><br>Bernard Burgaud just might be Ken Wright's French frère in Côte-Rôtie. Burgaud treats Syrah and the different lieux-dits of Côte-Rôtie with the same passion and attention that Wright gives to the most exalted vineyards of Willamette Valley. This is no doubt in part due to Bernard's studies and work in Beaune. More akin to the Cote d'Or, Côte-Rôtie is much cooler than the rest of the Rhone and each vineyard is singular and unique based on its exposure and spot on the many varied steep slopes. Burgaud's expansive knowledge of the terroir is the secret to knowing when each parcel has reached phenolic ripeness, with vineyards separated by less than a mile sometimes being harvested two weeks apart. It truly takes such subtle skill to produce a wine as powerful and seductive as great Côte-Rôtie.<br><br><b>4 Bottles Available</b>

Best from 2009 through 2013. 1,115 cases made. –JM Crozes Hermitage is the largest of all the northern appellations of Côtes du Rhône and the vineyards lay around Hermitage, where the soil is richer and easier to work with. Martinelles is a 20 hectare estate with 14 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage as well as 6 hectares in neighbouring Hermitage. While the estate has been in the family for three generations it is only since 2003 they have started to bottle and market their own wine, having previously sold everything to the negociant. The 1990 exhibits a huge, roasted Syrah nose and the massive power produced by the hot sun and drought of this vintage. It has also benefited from an unbelievably long 40-day maceration.
