Tasting Notes : When I talk to people who are serious about wine, it's just a matter of time when the subject leaves the more familiar turf of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Northern Rhone and Napa Cabernet and moves to the excellence of Nebbiolo from Piedmont. "There is the wine." As if the greatness of the other regions were too common. Time and again, the wines that inspires more comment than any other are the wines of Barbaresco and Barolo... two small hillsides where Nebbiolo reigns supreme. In great vintage years, the wines of Barbaresco can't be surpassed. And given a few years to age, the power and finesse of Nebbiolo magically appears in the glass. Such is the case with 2000 Fontanabianca 'Sori Burdin' Barbaresco, coming from the only vintage (from anywhere) that Wine Spectator has honored with a perfect 100pt rating, this wine received a huge 95pts rating. I have opened bottles of this wine 3 times in the past two months with a half dozen different people. On each occasion we tasted the amazing interplay of dark fruit and an earthy spiciness that is sinful. If you love wine, Fontanabianca should not be missed. This is the wines original release price from four years ago. Tasting Notes: Amazing aromas of ripe, plummy fruit, Indian spice and flowers, with just the hint of meat. Full-bodied and very concentrated, with amazing tannins and super ripe fruit. Huge yet balanced. Only 1,100 cases made
