If You Love Big Reds At Small Prices
This Is Your Wine
Malbecs from Argentina are hotter than ever! The wines are big and rich, with massive, serious concentration yet they are reasonably priced. Other regions offer the same concentration and richness, Napa Cabs, Super Tuscans but you are going to have to pay big bucks to get it. Malbecs have become hugely popular as a result but like anything in the wine world, the more popular it gets, the worse the quality becomes. It is actually getting pretty bad. There are a lot of mediocre to poor Malbecs masquerading as the real deal. They are not worth the money. This Malbec on the other hand is why these wines have become so popular. The 2007 Familia Schroeder Malbec Select hits it out of the park at the price point. Velvety texture, silk and satin, with rich dark red and black fruits. Parker loved it to giving the wine 90pts. The wine spends 12 months in oak to round it out the flavors adding a nice cedar component. This wine differs from other Malbecs, coming from the much higher elevation Patagonia region. This allows for longer hang time and perfect ripeness as a result of the intense sunlight and the substantial diurnal temperature differences that occur. All Schroeders vineyards are certified Organic. This is a spectacular value red wine that can be drunk now, ideal drinking for the fall and the upcoming colder months. If you are tired of paying up for quality from other regions, this wine will give you immense satisfaction at the price.
Tasting Notes: Berry, cassis and minerals abound with a lush pure, focused palate. Flavors of Black currant, cola and blackberry. This Malbec features an intense dark purplish red that shows maturity. To the nose it is complex - ripe red fruit aromas such as currants, plums and sour berries melt with some spicy hints. Due to ageing in oak casks some vanilla and coffee notes are shown. The mouth-feel is pleasant and well balanced. The long, lingering finish is dominated by sweet, velvety tannins. Delicious Everyday Enjoyment.
