I love to go to tastings in Manhattan. I get to taste the absolute finest wines the world has to offer and my mission is to find one wine that is the finest in the room, that I feel is worthy to be offered to our customers. This wine is one of those finds. This is on of the finest Malbecs I have ever tasted at any price. The wine simply blew me away. I then went on to find out that the wines are made rock star Cali winemaker Steve Clifton. His California property Brewer Clifton are some of the finest wines being made in California today and if you can find any, I definitely recommend. The 2008 Familia Mayol Malbec Finca Montuiri is sourced from a spectacular Malbec vineyard that was planted in 1926. We are talking serious old vines 84 years old that has given us incredible concentration in the gorgeous wine. Production is tiny a poultry 240 cases. Yields were kept tiny only 3 tons per hectare and the wine spent sixteen months in French oak of which 70% was new. If this was from California, it would be three times the price.
Tasting Notes: It has a ripe rich, extracted nose of blackberry liqueur and cedar with a touch of violet. Lush in the mouth, it displays a ripe, rich very flavorful attack of blackberry fruit with fine, round tannins. If you love the absolute finest in big red wine, this wine will give you wonderful pleasure.
