Tasting Notes: This is made by what many consider the Masters of Malbec from Mendoza. Brothers Hector and Pablo Durigutti. They became famous with their work with Alberto Atonini (Of Antinori and Frescobaldi) at Altos Las Hormigas, the wines that put Malbec from Argentina on the map in the late nineties. With extensive training in Europe including Antinori. They are the countries most sought after consulting enologists for the likes of Rutini; Catena and Cinco Tierras. Durigutti is their own boutique project. Their Malbec Reserva is superb. The wine is sourced mainly from a single vineyard called La Consulta that was planted in the 1940’s. This vintage is not rated yet but it is interesting note that the baby Durigutti Malbec was honored with inclusion in Wine Spectators Top 100 last year. The wine spends 16 months in oak, is unfined and unfiltered. Deep purple color. Aromas and flavors of plum, fig, ripe strawberry dominate. Tremendous concentration on the palate, with ample tannin and acidity to match. Finishes long, with loads of white pepper. This "big" wine matches sensationally with charcoal-grilled beef.
