Red Wine Hand-Picked
Winemaker Luc Perrin's 25 years of experience are fully on display with this beautiful, full-bodied, supple, sexy wine. Vineyards have existed on the Roger Perrin property between Orange and Chateauneuf since the beginning of the 1900's. However estate bottling only began in 1969 when the Domaine was founded by Roger who took over after his father-in-law's retirement. Roger died unexpectedly during the harvest in 1986, and his son Luc, a teenager who had studied enology and done an apprenticeship at Beaucastel, took over the domaine. Luc Perrin has steadily increased the quality of the vineyards and his wines and is now widely recognized as a rising star in Chateauneuf du Pape.

Luc's holdings are spread out over sixty-one plots with 15.6 hectare to Chateauneuf du Pape. While some of the vines are more than 100 years old, the average age of the vines is 60 years old. 85% of the vines are over 20 years of age. Two soils, classic clay/limestone subsoil covered by the famed galets roules. soil contains much more sand and makes wines that show a little more aromatic and tannic finesse.

76% Grenache, 12% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre, 3% Cinsault, 2% Clairette, 2% Counoise, 2% Vaccarese): The grapes are harvested by hand and partially destemmed (30-40%) depending upon the ripeness of the vintage. Vinification takes place in cement tanks over a period of 18-to-23 days. Certain lots of grapes are harvested separately, but generally two or three grapes are vinified together. 30-40% of the wine is raised in foudre, 40-50% in enamel-lined tanks, and 15-20% in new oak. The wines are normally blended after one year. Vineyards have existed on the Roger Perrin property between Orange and Chateauneuf since the beginning of the 1900's. Ruby/black robe. Red and black fruit, Provencal spices, pepper and a hint of vanilla. A very complex nose. The tannins are very fine and it has a generosity on the mouth that makes it very attractive. A remarkably long lingering finish with a touch of freshness and an extraordinary balance.

92 Pts RP r 92 pts Parker
Tasting Notes: Great wines are made in all vintages and Lesec’s Gigondas Cuvee Romaine 2006 is recognized as the finest he has made and is a spectacular example of Gigondas. The Gigondas appellation is the second most famous after Chateauneuf du Pape in the Southern Rhone. Many are as good if not better than Chateauneuf and they offer far better value. This wine cannot be touched in quality by any Chateauneuf under Fifty dollars a bottle. I love what Parker says about the wine: I was seduced by Lesec’s 2006 Gigondas Cuvee Romaine Les Espalines. It has more acidity than the 2005, but also more charm, fruit, and ripeness. A pretty wine with good tannin, minerality, black cherries, and herbs, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 10-12 years.

Bright red. Energetic strawberry and raspberry scents complicated by rose, lavender and baking spices. Tightly wound red fruit flavors fatten and deepen with air, picking up light tannins and finishing with excellent persistence. Combines sweetness and grip with a deft hand. The wine is 65% Grenache; 25% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah from 50+ year old vines. Covered with layers of small white stones, these lovely hillside vineyards in Gigondas have an ancient history dating back to the Romans.
