Tasting Notes: Jean Pascal runs his small family domaine in the village of Puligny by meticulous traditional winemaking. His Puligny is elegant, not overly oaked and retains a lovely concentration of butterscotch and hazelnuts, and finishes with complex flavours of brioche and cinnamon. The Pascal family started making wine in Puligny. Ensignieres sits just below Batard and Bienvenue Batard and contiguous to both. This vineyard makes some of the greatest expressions of white Burgundy at a fraction of the price of its neighbours. This wine absolutely blew me away in this vintage and at this price. Lovely perfume. Floral, peach, citrus nuances. Lovely supple, citrus tinged fruit. Rich with good backbone. Delicious now and will improve with time. The deep red clay soils are rich, giving lots of vigor and weight to this wine. This is made with only about 20-25% new oak to preserve the energy and focus of the wine. This is a terrific value in Puligny Montrachet.
