Tasting Notes: The 2005 Sophia is a blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, hand-picked, de-stemmed and aged for 19 months in French oak of which 80% is new. It displays a less ostentatious nose but has even better delineation with scents of red cherries, wild strawberry and gravel, the palate full-bodied and ripe with layers of thick black fruits on the finish. If you can help it, will Improve big time with cellaring. There's an ongoing sense of depth and power in the wines bouquet, great black fruits and the oak is superbly integrated. The palate is big and dense, substantial but never clumsy. The back palate is superb as the wine peaks in your mouth and then falls away to a very long, layered finish. Tannins are very refined and approachable yet abundant which bodes well for the cellar. This wine is all about quality, power and balance. Superb!
