After a two-year search spanning five continents, business partners and winemakers John Goelet and Bernard Portet finally settled on a place to open the Clos Du Val winery in 1972.

They chose a corner of California the wine world had never heard of... then. It's called Stag's Leap, and it's tucked in a quiet valley of now-famous Napa Valley, California.

There was nothing quiet about how Clos Du Val then took the world by storm with their sublime Pinot Noir and other varietals of fine wine.

After they placed highly at the 1976 Judgment of Paris competition, the world agreed: Clos Du Val was the real thing.
