The Clos du Bois vineyard found life in 1974, along a dream stretch of the Sonoma Valley in California. Nestled in the famed Alexander Valley, Clos du Bois found its name from a
rough French translation, which means "enclosure in the woods." The vineyard
first set out to produce heavenly chardonnay and pinot noir, but in due time, an
amazing merlot was born. The wine has a softer finish, higher alcohol content, and a rounder, more supple structure. The Clos du Bois vineyard has managed to master this delicate balance,
creating a truly outstanding merlot that stands alone or pairs perfectly with
all types of delicious foods. The classic 2002 selection, for example (one of their best offerings), features 92 percent merlot grapes, plus 6 percent cabernet sauvignon and 2 percent malbec. The 2003 Reserve Merlot, with an Alexander Valley appellation, is a blend of 97 percent merlot and 3 percent petit verdot. These masterful mixes give the wine more structure, balance, and flavor.
