2005 Bordeaux, One Of The Greatest Vintages Ever
Very Hard To Find This Kind Of Quality From 2005 Under Thirty
FREE SHIPPING BY THE CASE WHILE SUPPLIES LAST
Historic greatness is synonymous with 2005 Bordeaux. 99 points for vintage 2005 from both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. In a great year like '05 the quality runs deep. Estates lesser known, though no less well run than the famed First and Second Growth Chateaux but certainly a fraction of the price, give access to incredible wine at tremendous value. Chateau Haut Bertinerie in the same family for nearly two centuries, is a leading estate in the Right Bank canton of Saint-Savin. Since 1961,Daniel Bentegnies and now sons Eric and Frantz have made wines with complex aromas, intensely flavoured palates, and seamless textures of powerful yet ultra fine tannins. The esate is run exactly the same way in the vineyards, in the cellars and the winemaking process as a Grand Cru Classe Chateau that in this vintage sells for well over a hundred dollars a bottle. This is as good at a fraction of the price. I would love to put this in a blind tasting with great classifieds that sell for four to five times the price, you would never be able to tell the difference. In fact our importer, who's French, thinks so highly of their expertise that he's sending his daughter off to study winemaking with them. Maybe she'll learn how to produce a stunner like the 2005 Chateau Haut Bertinerie. This is a Right Bank Blend 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Yet my tasting notes are filled with impressions that bring Margaux to mind. On the nose, blackberry, spice, minerals and mushroom. Beautifully complex mouthfeel, with layered palate, medium to full-bodied, supple, powerful. As I said, very much a Left Bank sensation with Margaux's elegance, finesse coupled with solid structure. Very much a 2005, the fruit is magnificent, yet pretty would not be an incorrect description. Pretty magnificent is a perfect description of 2005 Chateau Haut Bertinerie's price. Regular retail is $34.99 but we're offering a saving of over 17% with our price of $28.99 plus free shipping on a case. To taste the greatness of 2005 Bordeaux you don't have to spend a great deal. To find one is another story. There are very few of these gems left at these prices.
Tasting Notes: Elevage in new oak barrels for 14 to 18 months with racking every three months.Converting to the lyre trellis system in 1987 gained Bertinerie a week of growing season, improving quality via better grape exposure to the historic 2005 vintage's outstanding growing season. 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc. From 30 year old vines. Malolactic fermentation in vat. Intense aromas of blackberry and minerals, medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a delicate finish. Alluring and supple now, reflective of its Right Bank composition, its structural assets will enable it to be laid down for mid-term cellaring as well.
