From 2001 through 2009 this wine has always got 90 pts or more by the Wine Spectator at sixty dollars a bottle. The wine is a gorgeous silky black fruit packed red that has been aged in new French oak adding to the complexity, elegance and length. The wine is equal parts Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese and the 2004 Carpineta Fontalpino Do Ut Des is about as good a big reds at the price I have seen. This is an insane! Somebody buy me a case! This blue chip Super Tuscan is made by the great Carlo Ferrini, one of Tuscany’s greatest winemakers. He makes some of the best, Oreno, Orma, Casanova di Neri Brunello and Petrolo. We are talking Tuscan Royalty. The wine scored an average of 90.2 on Cellar Tracker which is a huge score, these are your peers rating the wine and that was at a price of sixty. Carpineta has been owned by the Cresti family since the 1960’s but the history goes back to the 1800’s. The vineyard is located in one of the sweet spots of Tuscany, Berardenga, made famous by the superb Felsina wines. Gioia, 39 took over the estate with her brother Filipo in 1990 and they immediately set about replanting the vineyards. The Wine Spectator in their Special Report on The Best Of Italy: 10 Italian Wineries to Watch included Carpineta Fontalpino as one of them. This is Super Tuscan at its finest! Parker sais the wine could easily pass for a top flight Classified Bordeaux. I can not stress enough what a great buy this is. Enjoy!
Tasting Notes: " Dark in color. Aromas of blackberry and licorice follow through to a full body, with silky tannins and a long finish. Very pretty. Balanced and polished. Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.300 cases made. –JS "It has a color deep ruby, very intense, with persistent delicate perfumes and of ample space. Full-bodied...mature fruit (blackberries, blueberries, plums) and sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon and walnuts), chocolate and spices...accompanied to toasted signs (Dutch cocoa, coffee, caramel), to licorice, violet and tobacco." -Winery
