This is an insane big red that is brilliantly priced for what’s in the bottle. This kind of quality from Cliafornia is hardly ever found under thirty dollars a bottle. The wine got a huge 92 pts by James Laube at the Wine Spectator with a “Highly Recommended” and is now being offered for mid thirties a bottle. Our price of $24.99 is best online. The wine is made by McPrice Myers who has developed an excellent reputation for Syrah and Rhone Varietals coming out of the Santa Barabara area. His wines under the McPrice Myers label are getting monster scores by Parker and Spectator and are priced a tier higher. The Barrel 27 Wine Co. was started by Myers with Russel From of Herman Story Wines, another to Rhone producer in Santa Barbara. The force behind Barrel 27 is to make high quality wines that are more affordable to all but are still awesome quality and they have hit it out of the park with their 2008 Barrel 27 Head Honcho Syrah. The wine is sourced from three different single vineyards: Zotovich Vineyard, Les Galets Vineyard and Hinnrichs Vineyard. These vineyards are famous for old vine Syrah and are all single vineyard designates under the McPrice Myers labels at much higher prices and also great ratings. The wine is big and rich with copious amounts of forward, opulent red and black fruits. Great bouquet balancing oak and fruit with a supple finish that showing superbly. This is a lot of wine for the price and if you love California reds, you will adore this wine and coming back for more. Problem only 530 cases of the wine were made and at our price, best online,will sell out.<br><br> Head Honcho Syrah does not disappoint. Almost black in color, the massive nose churns out aromas of dark plum, blackberry, raspberry, pepper and spice. On the palate it has tons of multi-layered fruit: black currant, raspberry, roasted meat, black pepper, clove, cinnamon, dried herbs and Asian five spice powder. The finishing back beat brings out dark cocoa, lavender and a bit of burnt toast (from the barrel aging) with no heat and really well integrated tannins. While it’s drinking deliciously well now, it’s still young and has all the elements for evolving into an even more outstanding wine in the future. 92 pts Spectator.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 91 Pts ST Dark purple. Spicy raspberry and kirsch aromas are complicated by exotic Asian spices and a gentle graphite quality. Varietally expressive flavors of sweet red and black fruits and floral pastille, and gentle mineral lift on the finish. Very nicely balanced for a warm-vintage wine, with lovely finishing sweetness.
