Although wine has been produced in South Africa for more than 300 years, the region is considered young by comparative standards. Regardless of their "youth," South
African wines have dramatically increased in popularity - especially during
recent years. This is in part the result of so-called "new" grapes that have
been produced in the area. Developed by a South African viticulturist in 1925, the Pinotage is a hybrid
of the Pinot Noir and Cinsault grapes. After a brief period of disinterest,
Pinotage gained considerable commercial popularity in the wine market.
The great thing about Pinotage is the fact that it is fairly inexpensive (but remarkably flavorful). Then again, if you don't want to buy Pinotage wines from South Africa, there
are plenty of other options to consider. At Grapes of Norwalk, our specialists in the
customer service department can help you determine the perfect South
African wine to buy. To get a delicious introduction to all the varieties (or to increase your already impressive collection), you are encouraged to contact us either by phone, or by sending us an email. Our staff are seasoned, knowledgeable, and professional, and the sommeliers at our online wine shop can help you find the perfect spirit to buy.
